OT: Age for bed?

Both of my kids (now 6 and 7) went from crib to big boy/girl bed with rails at age 3. That was the age my doctor recommended (she said if they aren't climbing out on their own, leave them in the crib until 3, but if they are climbing out on their own, for safety reasons you need to move them sooner) It was nice because we totally redid their rooms and got new big boy/girl beds and decorations for their third birthday. And the transition was very smooth, neither one had a single problem.

DS4 (soon to be 5 next wk) was out of his crib at about 2 1/2. We got him a toddler car bed, which he loved. Only problem was finding sheets for it. There are not too many choices out there and you have to buy them in sets. You can't buy just the bottom and top sheet. It has to be that and the spread and pillowcase.

Hmmm...I thought some of those accomodated a regular size mattress. Well, no matter, I could makes sheets and stuff in a heartbeat since that is part of my job anyway. Good thing to keep in mind now. With DS we went into a toddler bed, so we used his crib mattress. For DD we went right to a twin bed.

Yes, my little guy has become quite the gymnast in the crib, so a bed is imminent for him. I don't need him vaulting over the side and landing on his head! Thanks to everyone for their advice. I guess we are just around the right time everyone else has made the transition. You'd think that EVERYTHING comes back to you with parenting, but its been such a long while between kids that I had forgotten some stuff.
