we will be spending the holidays at WDW and have never seen the Osbourne Dancing lights. I know its the last year but I was wondering if the dessert party is really worth it. There will be 8 of us in the party and it will cost us at least $500 to do it. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thank you!

my two cents:
Osborne lights are better appreciated by walking around and not staying in one spot. We usually wait by the LMA restrooms for them to turn on, we stay there for the first 5 songs and then start walking around.
Now having a place to sit and relax while eating desserts is nice and you can come and go from the reserved area as much as you want, plus you would get the blanket
I know this is no real help, If you're tight on money I wouldn't do it and you can still get gingerbread cookies, or cupcakes or sugar cookies and not spend so much.

The best part of the Osborne lights is walking up and down the whole streets area looking at all the different displays and then standing in the middle watching the lights dance to music with snow falling down on you.
you don't need the desert party to do this, the street is open and free to everyone in the park. There are snacks and drinks for sale during the show also. Save your money for something else.

I agree. It appears that Disney will start to attach a Dessert Party to pretty much everything now. Look for a Dessert Party on board the Ferry as you take it back to the TTC! But just because they offer one doesn't meant that it is the optimal option for the guest. Often times, it is simply the optimal option for Disney, and they prey on people wanting to feel "special". It's a good strategy when you are on vacation with 200,000 of your closest friends. People will spend a lot of money to separate themselves from the masses. For this one? No. I wouldn't do it.

I think the answer is - it depends. We are going, but we will be there the week before Christmas and New Year's and DH and DS7 will not do well pushing through crowds to see the lights. My DH isn't a huge WDW fan, but would like to see the lights before they go away. My DS7 has ASD, so this is a good option for him to be able to see the lights without feeling too crowded. Will we walk through? Possibly. It really depends on how the crowd is that evening. We are not really going for the desserts, though I'm looking forward to getting the blanket! We did the premium SWW package and really liked having dedicated spaces to see the parade and the fireworks. It just made our experience on a crowded day much more enjoyable. If you feel like your group can navigate the lights without having a dedicated spot or you don't really want the desserts, beverages and blankets, yeah, I would totally skip it too!

I would Google or look for threads on the Frozen Dessert Party from last year - I imagine it will be somewhat similar with a few more perks. This will give you something to use as a comparison to help you with the decision. I imagine with the cost, reviews will be at both ends of the spectrum like they are with most extra perks like this. I think one thing is for sure about Disney people, and that is when it comes to Disney and the price of extra perks, to each their own. Regardless of your decision, I think you will be amazed by the Osborne Family Lights and glad you were able to see them.

Personally I can't see any value in this one. There is alcohol but we don't drink. As mentioned, the lights are best seen walking around and through it, so I don't quite get the point? That being said I'm sure it is lovely.

Thank you all for all your input much appreciated! I think I will take your suggestions and walk through it and use my $$ on other things I'm sure I will find a way to use it! Have a great day everyone!

Go have a nice dinner somewhere instead with that money! Have a great trip :)

I know that Disney is all about making people spend money, but this feels like such a desperate money grab that I don't feel right about booking it for my family. I just know I'll be sitting there thinking about how much it cost instead of really enjoying it. Just my $.02

We went to the Frozen one last year. It was very nice. The value is not there. It's expensive. However, it was very well put together, relaxing, great treats and drinks. Sitting and enjoying the ambiance was a welcomed break. The area is surrounded by lights, it's not crowded, and you could come and go as you pleased. I posted pictures and a report from it. I'd have to look for the link.

I am able to give a first hand account of the premium package. I have to admit it was pretty awesome and I was wrong about a few things.

The ice cream cart was off to the right, as soon as you enter.

From other's pictures, I had assumed the pin and lithograph were all in one. The lithograph is a picture of Anna and Elsa. The pin comes with a picture of the Osborne Lights.

Sitting at a table to enjoy the lights is a completely different experience than walking through them. I enjoyed them immensely. Was given "Mickey vision glasses", green paper glasses that made Mickey's reflection show with each light.

To see all the lights, you need to get out on the streets and walk through each lit up area. But you can see pretty many lights from the dessert area.

Sitting behind the wall still had a great view of the lights around me.

On the table with the tea and coffee, there were flavorings of hazelnut, cane sugar caramel, and Zero Calorie Vanilla. There were assorted Twinings Teas. Another table had hot apple cider with caramel flavoring. It was interesting and I enjoyed that. But have to say I much preferred the hot apple cider with marshmallow flavoring they had last year at Epcot. Soda/Pop was in an ice cooler with bottled water. Hot chocolate with toppings of marshmallows and candy canes were also on this table, along with POG.

The Olaf Pops were not marshmallows, but were carrot cake in one snow ball and a chocolate cake in the other.

I look at it as being similar to having access to a corporate lounge or a club level lounge with a view of the lights.

It's not like the tomorrowland terrace party where you stay in one spot during the show. You can come and go as you please at the HS party, and being outside you will have a good view of the lights from the party area.
I figure I'll do it one night so that I can grab some food and drinks when I get there, head out into the herd and walk around seeing the lights from all different areas, and just when the crowds are getting to be enough, go back to the party area and enjoy some more relaxation with food and drinks.

For some it's expensive, for other it's peanuts... It's all in how you value the experience and what you can comfortably afford.

Another thing you might not be aware of, the rain location. In the event of bad weather, it got moved to Studio Catering where it totally lost the ambiance and view of the lights.

I have tickets for this. I am waiting for the first reviews to come in. If wine is one of the drinks offered we will most likely go. Wine is the only alcohol my husband and I drink. It will be cu to sip and relax with a view of the lights.

We have never been fans of the Osbourne Lights and will only see them if we happen to be in the parks at the end of the day. Our biggest problems are typically people wandering around looking up at the lights and not where they are going. So with the combined fact that this is the last year for the lights and the reserved seating area we decided to try this dessert party out. Based on the Epcot dessert party we aren't expecting much but since it's a final farewell we thought we should do it.

We also bought tickets and are planning on reevaluating when the reviews come out in November. We're not going until December, so I figure that gives us a chance to make an educated decision. Though at this point we are leaning towards cancelling. It's just so expensive. The only reason I think we'd keep it is if reviews come out saying that the streets are so packed people were unable to get in and see the lights. We're most interested in the reserved seating more than the alcohol and desserts.
