Osbourne lights info

We were there 2 years ago (during the last display they had).It will probably be somewhat different because they're on NY street this year as opposed to the "residential" area they were on previously.

I was there with my then 4 yr old dd (by myself) when they turned the lights on at 6pm, she was in her stroller. Although it was neat to see the lights turned on it was mayhem. My poor dd practically got crushed in her stroller-she couldn't see a thing!! I felt like I was at a concert in the general admission section. To say it was "packed" was an understatement! And, this was in early Dec. during "off peak" season!

So, we dodged off to a side street and ended up in Mama Melrose, we hadn't had dinner yet so we sat and relaxed at an almost empty restaurant and discovered a "new" eatery to put on our "must do" when in MGM list!

After a nice relaxing dinner we took a "stroll" through a practically empty Osborne light display at about 7:15. The park closed at 7:00. There were other people there probably from Fantasmic but it seemed so empty after being in that awful crowd.

This is how we intend on seeing them this year. We were not at all rushed out and dd was able to enjoy them from her "stroller" view (and I was able to enjoy them in a much less clostrophic atmosphere).

oH i'M GETTING EXCITED!!

Am I understanding this correctly? The lights are being turned on the night BEFORE Thanksgiving on the 24th? Thanksgiving is the 25th, right? Or am I losing my mind? I'm excited. We fly out on the 25th and I was thinking we wouldnt see any of the lights.. but but the 24th is our last night and there may be a chance???

We've gone Thanksgiving week for a few years in a row now and we go home on Thanksgiving day.... Our experience has been that the AP preview is the weekend before Thanksgiving on Friday and Saturday night. The lights were on every night after that for all guests starting the Sunday before Thanksgiving. Obviously it WAS NOT that way in 2003 since they did not put up the lights last year.

The 'official' opening is always slated right around Thanksgiving day, but they should be on before that if past history holds true.

Hope this helps!

Ok so we are SURE we will get to see them AFTER fantasmic then? Right?

Next Question, fantasmic holds ALOT of people...if we wait out the fantasmic crowd, and leave the auditorium last, would this be the best approach to seeing the lights?? Will it be less croweded then?

OR should be plan another night to go back to MGM and see them while fantasmic is going on? Dont really know when I will fit this in though?

Thanks!
I am so excited about these lights!:hyper:

we used this strategy last time, and it worked well.

I think we are going to go and see them during Fantasmic. The boys didn't love it last year as much as other times so we are planning to skip it this year, I think they will like the lights better I know I will!:D

Yes, that helps bunches.. thanks so much. I am getting super excited. It seemed like time flew by the past few weeks but now it's creeping along!

Im thrilled we get to see the lights

When MGM closes at 8:30 on Thanksgiving weekend and the days right around Christmas (10:00 Dec. 27-30, and 1 a.m. on the 31st - 3 shows) there are 2 Fantasmic shows - the second one being at 8:30. On all other nights, MGM closes at 8:00 and Fantasmic is at 7:00. The park will still be open when Fantasmic lets out at 7:30, so those NOT seeing Fantasmic would do well to see the lights earlier in the evening.

That is my concern, the night we are seeing fantasmic and the lights, fantasmic starts at park closing 8pm, the park will have been closed for 30 minutes when fantasmic gets out.

The thing is, not everyone at Fantasmic knows you can go see the lights after the show. They assume since the park is closed (or will be closing in 30 minutes) they must beeline for the bus stops and parking lot.

Not sure if this year they will advertise the fact you can walk through after the show or not.
Ether way, I'll hang back a bit and leisurely walk through. it's not like they'll boot you out if you are a straggler. Disney is good about that. :)

We've never seen the lights before so I'm excited to think that we might be able to see them on the 19th. Problem is we have a dinner PS in MK at 7:05 and I think MGM closes at 7 that night. We have AP's...is it only for AP holders? What time do they turn the lights on...or stay open later?

That's what I thought, but some people have been listing a certain day they are going, just like Mickey's Christmas party and the p of candles.

Can I ask a qustion. What is p of candles?, I really think getting in after Fanstmic is a good question. The last two years we went which we the last two years they had it, the CM:S would NOT allow us to go see the Osbourne lights afterwards. A bunch of people keep trying to tell them that you could and they keep telling us that they were not allowed to let anyone to back there after closing. So Who KNows.!!!!

They are talking about candle light processional at epcot.

Also, everyone might want to recheck their park hours, and fantasmic hours, I just noticed the night we were going to go fantasmic was changed to 7.

A couple of years ago, we tried to see the lights after Fantasmic, and the CMs wouldn't let us go through. I'm not taking that chance again. We'll skip Fantasmic.
