This is my first time participating in an ornament exchange on my cruise this fall. Rules are one ornament per cabin, but no other rules. Is there a typical price people would spend? Home-made? Any suggestions or ideas? Thanks for your help!

It really is up to you. Groups sometimes set limits on how much they can cost but other than that, whatever floats your boat. You can make your own or buy them.

HOW FUN!!! I would LOVE to do an ornament exchange on my Very Merrytime cruise.... but I don't think my "group" is active.

I personally would find or make (if crafty enough) an ornament that represents either my hometown, or specific to our sailing. Depending on how many cabins would determine my price point per ornament. I'm pretty frugal. :rotfl:

I love ornaments. They all go on the tree. I feel it's 80/20 personally embellished/pre-made by store.
I would rather break one on the way home then be safe with the plastic Disney colors stuffed in a plastic bulb.
But I do feel responsible to find a vessel to offer safe passage home. For example a strong small cardboard box or small tin from the dollar store.

I set up ornament exchanges all of the time and I tell people to do what ever they would like. I keep it at 6 staterooms. Typically its one per stateroom but depends on the ADM. I keep my Ornaments out all yr round that I get from our cruises. I have an ornament hanger I purchased and boy does it work well.

We just participated in one on our last cruise. It was fun and we received some great ornaments! I would say it was maybe 60/40 homemade to purchased. I made ours and my requirement for myself was something that would be flat and not easily breakable so that they would not take up much space in luggage and the recipient would not have to worry about them getting broken. Most of the ones we received were like that but there were a few bulkier ornaments that took up more room in my luggage than I would have liked. We had 10 rooms in an exchange.

I would love to see photos of what you made! :)

This is what I made for our last cruise and plan to do for our upcoming cruise. We made 3 different things for each stateroom, but I think this upcoming cruise we will make 2. It was split 50/50 with handmade vs. purchased ornaments, either way we loved them all.

I didn't even think to take any pictures of mine! I did three different designs. It was honestly what I could find cheap at the hobby store and make into something I thought was cool. Here is a picture of all of the ones we received though!

I had the round room number given to me just in March! Love that one.

We were on the MerryTime cruise last year with Christmas day sailing and got different ornaments and loved them. We were likely more 50/50 on homemade(ish) vs store bought. I found skeleton keys on ETSY with Mickey heads and tied a festive ribbon on them. Added a note for the cabins with kids that said Mickey was providing this "Santa" key so that he could still make his deliveries since there were no chimneys.

We did receive several Disney Store ornaments, can't wait to hand on our tree this year.

Our group is doing this and I'm very excited. It's the first Merrytime cruise of the year and our honeymoon!
