Orlando residents?

Hello all,

For years (like at least 20), I have wanted to move to Florida. I am now seriously considering making a move next summer. Is there anyone here who lives in Orlando who might be willing to answer a few questions or offer some words or wisdom?

Thanks
Carol

Need a few details. Some family demographics? Are you initially looking to rent or buy? How much can you afford? What kind of work (if any) are you looking for?

Avoid Parramore and Pine Hills areas like the plague. I lived there for about a year in 2006-2007 after being away for 10 years. There is a lot more crime now, but most of it seemed to be in those 2 areas. There are plenty of nice areas to live. Maitland is nice, as are some parts of Altamonte Springs.

I don't live there, but ask away. I know more about that city than the one I live in :lmao:

I moved to Winter Springs, FL a few months ago. Love it so far (traffic on I-4 can be a nightmare at times).:cool1:

Definately avoid Parramore, Tangelo Park and the Washington Shores areas. Some areas of Pine Hills are very nice...I live on the "outskirts" of Pine Hills and have never had any trouble. Where are you going to be working? That will determine which areas you should be considering.

Do you like water? As in hurricanes and tropical storms? Do you have a ton of money for homeowners insurance?

and finaly, Do you like your bugs really big?

I don't live in Orlando but rather S. Florida. I moved down two years ago from Chicago after living there and Indiana. We are from Boston! I can give you general ideas!!

This question always makes me laugh because no of course I don't like hurricanes and tropical storms but snow, driving on ice and subzero temps day after day aren't my favorite either.

As far as water - not sure I understand and the tons of money question can always corelate to another expense someone has in their part of the country.

you need to add horrible roads that rip of your exhaust, road salt that destroys the exterior of cars, mammouth pot holes that are unavoidable and destroy tires.

Heating bills that make us cry.

State income tax

I'm in Lake County(love it!), 20 miles west of Orlando and about 25 miles from Disney. I've also lived in Ocala and Kissimmee.

Best advice I can give you is to make a trip down to explore the different areas you're interested in yourself. The different parts of Florida are all so diverse, one persons paradise could be anothers nightmare. Also if those areas happen to be close to Disney, do not stay on property when you make the trip, better yet stay in one of your top pick areas instead.
