When trying to rent a car during a Feb. trip, the best I could find was about $300(including taxes). Is this pretty much the norm year round. Even though we will be staying onsite for a April 2008 trip, I like the flexibility a car gives you, but at those prices, I could forego the car and stay an extra night. Are the days of getting a weekly rate under $200 gone?

For our upcoming trip (5 days from today--woohoo!!) we have an intermediate for 8 days for $147 all taxes included. Way way back when I first started planning rates were around $250. I had a ressie with Budget for awhile for $225, then Thrifty for $170 then 5 weeks before our trip got a tip on this board that Alamo had dropped and I snagged the $147 deal. For Spring Break, I thought that was decent. Book something and you can always cancel and rebook. Good luck!

Thanks! It could be that rates were higher on recent trip because of President's Week.

Well, you are not the first person who has said that 5 weeks is magic number. We leave in 5 weeks. I checked the rentals today and nothing, zip, ziltch (besides the $172 reservation that I already have). We also need 8 days so, $147 would be a sweet deal. I am keeping ym fingers crossed for this week. I'll certainly make a post if it does drop.

We have a full size for $156 from April 8-14. President's Week is very high for car rentals -- the parks are more crowded at Easter, so I'm not sure why the prices are higher in February. Possibly because of Daytona racing.

Do you know when your rates dropped? I am keeping my fingers crossed.

Not sure what you're Apirl 2008 dates are, but we're going this April (16-23). I booked with DOllar using the Kiss code quite a while ago and got a rate of $146 for intermediate. All the others were much higher. Just this week I was able to secure Nat EA for $170 (with codes and coupons) For the extra $25 we'll walk to our car and both be able to drive.

We've gone pres week for the last three years. I'm doing well when I can get a car for $225 or less.

In the fall and early Dec, I've snagged weekly rentals for $120 or less, all fees included.

I would never prepay a car reservation unless it was a real steal. If you don't get a good price at 11 months out, often the best prices are within 6 weeks of travel.

We go May 27 0 June 5. The best I have been able to fine is $195 for a comapact through Dollar using the KISS code. Hope it goes down.
