Ive heard this has a double buggage retrevial system, last time we flew into sanford which was pretty normal.

So how does this baggage system work?, Ive read Simons Bit in his book, but all sounds gobbley gook!!, is it a pain, or very starightforward?

Any hints on picking up the car(dollar), from the airport would be most appreciated.

Jules;) :Pinkbounc :bounce:

is it as confusing as it sounds LOL:)

I can see DS's wrestling his suitcase of the guy that tries to take it the second time!!! LOL.

Jules - it's a bit of a pain, but very straightforward.

As soon as you get off your flight you go collect your luggage from the carousels and go through as though you're going to be collecting your hire car/leaving the airport etc. You will then have all your luggage (not hand luggage) taken away from you whilst you take the monorail over to the other side of the airport. You then head towads the baggage reclaim section there - and your luggage arrives a few minutes later:D

We had to use this the first time we went to Orlando and it was actually a lot mroe straightforward than we had expected and we didn't have any problems. The only downside is that it takes longer because you have to wait for your luggage twice.

Anyone knows if its any different for domestic arrivals ?

The good thing about flying indirect to Orlando is that you clear customs at your pont of entry and getting thorough MCO is a lot quicker.

We flew to Orlando via Washington last year and once you arrive you pick your bag's up and go. It was very quick once we arrived to leaving the airport :D

Jules,

This is the procedure:

Off the plane and into the immigration hall (don't mess with these guys - they take their jobs very seriously). Then collect your bags from the carousel and clear security and customs.

Load your baggage onto the moving belts (supervised) and make your way to the tram which will take you to the main terminal. Once there, second baggage claim is level B (middle floor), car rental is level A (ground floor). I usually go for the bags, whilst Matt goes to the Dollar desk for the car. Seldom anyone else waiting as they're all in baggage claim!

Jules,

Never mind the baggage retrieval ( which is a pain but no big deal ) ... the big problem ( imho ) is the shuttle-train. The doors slam shut with no warning at all.........if our DD ( 9 at the time ) hadn't had the presence of mind to leap forward into the shuttle she'd have been left behind on her own. This happened two years ago.........even now I go cold when I think of it.

Anyone with kids should bear this in mind.

Well unless i'm going mad and hearing things I am pretty sure they actually give a spoken warning that the train is getting ready to leave the station and that you should grab onto something:confused:

Its the same voice as the "Welcome to Orlando" message.

or am I wrong ?

well thats my DH and DS out one is profoundly deaf the other hard of hearing!!!.

Will bare that in mind and grab him(ds) that is before we board!!.

Totally agree - they are extremely serious - we didn't even get a smile or thankyou on our last trip I wouldn't want to mess with them at all!

I can't say I remember the doors on the tram thing giving warning either. Be aware and get in as soon as possible.

Have a great trip. :)

Richard. :)

Are you not too bothered about DH then??;)

We DID get a warning - however only in Spanish!!!

All I heard before the door shut was "blah, blah, blah-blah-blah, por favor"

And so these trains have forever been known as the Por Favor since in our household!

But yes, if you are flying via somewhere else in the States, you don't clear customs in Orlando and so only collect your luggage once. It's so quick, we actually made it once from the plane arriving at the gate to starting the ignition of the rental car in under 25 minutes.

..............Don't want to cast aspersions on your state of mental health ( LOL ) .....but there sure as heck was no warning either on the platform or when entering the train.

Personally you can keep Orlando International for me, I much prefer the simplicity of Sanford.

jules...........DEFINITELY hang on to your ds ( and DH if you have the other hand spare !! ).
