Being a veggie and going to the land where beef is king I know I will be a minority, but, does anyone know where the best places to go are being a veggie and the places to avoid at all costs??!!

Also we were planning to go to Dolly Parton's Dinner show and looking at the menu it also features a fair amount of meat, does anyone know if you can request a veggie alternative or if you just get the meal as is and hand out the meat to the rest of the party who are not veggies??

In our family, DD1 will eat no meat at all, I eat no meat but I will eat fish and some seafood, DD2 occasionally eats chicken and US crispy bacon but no other meat, and DH eats everything going! :teeth:

So between us, we're a demanding lot when it comes to eating out. We've never had a problem finding something to suit everyone when eating out in Florida, even if it means relying on a plain pizza rather more often than we might choose.

We've found pretty much all US restaurants willing to alter menu dishes if you ask, but we're very 'British' in that we sometimes don't like to put people to too much trouble, etc., etc. ;)

We find that buffets usually work out quite well for us, as then we can pick out the items we want, but it's not always easy to identify strictly vegetarian dishes. None of us are 100% strictly veggie and would be okay about eating something cooked in the 'wrong' kind of fat, for example, if we had to.

HTH :)

The question reminds me of an anecdote a (veggie) friend of mine told me about her first trip to the US. She was on business and was visiting somewhere in Virginia. Her US hosts took her out to their favourite local restaurant - which happened to be a steakhouse. When she asked the waitress what was available for vegetarians, the waitress told her there was 'grass out at the the back'!!!

Orlando is much more accommodating!

Thanks for the info everyone, it is much appreciated.

Hope you all have a great time when you go again.

All the Disney full service (sit-down) restaurants have a veggie option and these restaurants, if you advise them at least 24 hours ahead, will even prepare something for you.

Buffet style, I've read Boma is popular with vegetarians - even their great soups offer a vegetarian soup option.

For a character meal, the Garden Grill in The Land Pavilion has a tasty vegetable stew, but again, advise them when/if you make a PS. (They have a really nice strawberry shortcake for dessert so leave some space :) !!!)

Dolly Parton's show do offer vegetarian meals. You're supposed to mention it when you make the reservation but I'm sure they'd still add it to your booking if you contact them before you go.:D

Just a second vote for sweet tomatoes, reasonably priced, vast salad bar, limited main courses but all freashly cooked. very cheap and pleasant. Best veggie option we found.

I have always found that any on-site sit down restaurant accomodationg for a fussy veggie like me ;)

I can never remember what I had but I have had some great meals at Flying Fish, Citrico's, 'Ohana's etc.

You can call 24 hours ahead to discuss your needs, but I have pretty much found they can whip me up something nice on the day :)

The thing that has put me off phoning ahead to discuss veggie requirements is that I know I'd then be committed to having whatever had been arranged. Quite often there's actually something already on the menu that can easily be adapted, so I'm more than happy to take a chance when I get there. :)

Another vote for sweet tomatoes!!!
Also the cheescake factory at the mall at millenia. altho its not cheap, there are so many vegetarian options as well as meat options and the food is delicious.
Definitely a family favourite restaurant with us - 3 of whom are veggie!
