Appearance by
Great Grandma and Grandpa
Note. We had this trip planned for a while. But before we left we found out we won A 3 year membership to the DVC. So thats why we are staying at an All Star Vacation home most of the time. But have 1 night at the Contemporary Tower Club Level with Magic Kingdom View. (we are saving most of our points this year for a trip to Cancun, since this trip was already paid for)
The big thing on this trip was the weather. We were grossly under dressed.
We saw the weather was in the 60s but didnt figure how cold it would be in the mornings before it warmed up. So we wore the same jeans and two long sleeve shirts a lot. Luckily the kids had coats. Its a first, walking around the Magic Kingdom, in 40 degree temps.
To start, our flight ended up leaving 3 hours later that we thought so we pretty much arrived
and grabbed take out the first night that's about it.
Day1: The Magic Kingdom
Our first full day we of course hit Magic Kingdom. Timed it almost perfectly got to the front gate
about 5 minutes before opening. So we immediately hit Fantasyland. Grant requested Peter Pan's flight first
so we did that...then Dumbo, Carousel and It's a Small World. (Philharmonic was closed)
On the way to Pooh, Kortney and Josie got sidetracked and met with Pooh and Tigger instead.
Grant wasn't into meeting characters this time so the two of us went on the ride.
Then to the Pooh's playful spot. Then we went back and did Pooh all 4 of us.
Of course these rides were Josie's favorite. Small World, Dumbo and Carousel.
Then is was dad and Grant on Tea Cups. (mommy won't do it)
After that Grant discovered Goofy's Barnstormer. He loved it.
He rode like 5 times.
We then met the Princesses for Josie. Grant again didn't care to meet anyone.
This is where we start to get the Josie lookers. I know Im her dad but Im still amazed how many people stare and comment how cute Josie is. Even the Princesses who see kids contantly gaucked and commented on how beautiful she is.
And how pretty her eyes are.
It was off to lunch at Cosmic Rays. Bummer though, the robot singer wasn't open.
After that we rode the Speedway and then on to Buzz. Another of Grants favorites.
And finished off Tomorrowland we rode Transit Authority.
(Grant is too small for Space Mountain and we figured he wouldn't care about Carousel of Progress or like Stitch)
From there we cross over to Adventureland and checked out Jungle Cruise. Grant really like this, Josie was interested
...A lot of animals to see. Then it was to Pirates. At first Grant was scared but liked it by the time it was over.
Then Mommy and the kids to Aladdin's Carpets (Me to try a dole whip) (a first) and off to Tiki Birds.
This weird enough was the longest we waited all day. 10 minutes. We just missed the next show.
Then to Fronteirland. Checked to see but Grant was too short for Thunder (and Splash was closed.)
so we checked out Country Bears. As we got out the 3 Oclock parade has just started.
Yes, after all that it's only 3pm!!!!
It was starting to rain and get cold but Grandma and Grandpa bought something that wouldn't be ready till 5pm
so we figured we might as well stay So it was back to Goofy for a few more rides.
By then it was 4:30 and raining hard and cold Like 40 degrees so we checked out their item and it was ready so
we left.
Day 2: Fishing and Chef Mickey
The next day we woke early and went fishing from 7-9am. (a first) It was really cool. Again about 40 degrees.
but the lake was covered with fog and looked cool. We were standing on the dock behind Contemporary Tower, the sun
wasn't even up yet, the area was empty, not a single person around. Pretty cool. Got a few Beautiful photos.
Fishing was fun. Everyone caught at least 2 fish. Grant, caught 3. I got 3 and one got away. My first fish. I got a bite and
was reeling it in, and just got it to the boat the the guide says don't bring it too the boat too close, boy that looks like a nice big one.
Just then, it gets away. I'm like, that's info I could have used a few seconds earlier.
Oh well it was fun.
At 10am we and reservations at Chef Mickey's so since we had the time, I checked into our room at the Contemporary.
14th Floor, Magic Kingdom View. ( a first)
Then we ate. Everyone like it. Grandma and Grandpa and Great Grandma and Grandpa were there too, they all have fun
watching the kids meet the characters. From there Grandma and Grandpa took the kids and Kortney and I had time to ourselves.
We checked out our room. it was nice but really unimpressive. It's room, bed and tv that's about it.
The bath is nice but not great. Really for the Concierge Club level we expected more. But view was amazing!!!!!
We sat and rested for a few minutes enjoying the view and sounds. Really from there you can see there's a lot of unused land
around the resorts and lake.
We could hear the show on stage in front of the castle. The train and a few other things. It was cool.
It was not about noon, at 5 we had dinner reservations so we took the time to go downtown shopping without kids.
Turns out it was about the nicest day we had there all week.
On the way out grabbed a quick bite from the free food they set out for Club level guests in a Lounge . All day they set out different things
for guests to take. Morning it's a Continental breakfast. then snacks, light pastries, candies, drinks and such. Different things for different times
of day.
We returned and grabbed a few drinks from the fridge in the room. Also free. and rested till dinner time.
Then ate at Jiko, one of our favorites. Expensive but good.
We returned to the room, I had some beer and Kortney had some wine we we watched the fireworks from the balcony.
Very Cool. Since it was cold then Kortney went in and I stayed and watching the Electric Water Parade from the balcony.
Day 3 Hollywood Studios
Next day Kortney and I hit Hollywood Studios. First we started with a nice free breakfast at the Club Lounge.
We arrived at the gate just before opening again. and off to Toy Story Mania. First thing. We grabbed fast passes and got in line.
My first score was 195,000, Kortney's was 150,000. The line was still short so we did it again. Again almost the same scores.
By the time we were done then, it was only 10 minutes before our fast pass time so we checked out One Man's Dream.
Nice look back at Walt's life.
Then back to Toy Story Mania for a 3rd time. Again same scores!!! High score of the day was over 300,000. I have no idea
how they do it.
Then it was off to Rock and Roller and Tower of Terror. Since we had lunch coming up it was Rock and Roller and fast pass
Tower. RnR was fun then lunch at Sci Fi Dinner. On the way Kortney go invited to a sneak peak of American Idol attraction.
She was invited to try out, but didn't want to and since we had lunch we passed.
I heard good things about the Strawberry shake there. (a first). Lunch was good but really you go there for the entertainment.
After lunch it was too the Tower of Terror. Then we had time and checked out the stunt show. (a first)
Kind of cool. But they had some problems and stopped the show for 10 minutes half way through, then restarted.
So it kind of left a so so feeling
By then Kortney was missing the kids so we went back to the rental house to spend time with them.
Day 4: Almost Nothing, The Wine Room
The next day we really did nothing. Almost literally. We stayed at the rental house and
Relaxed in the morning. After the kids took their naps it was finally warm enough to swim. So we all took a nice swim for a while. Eventually the kids got cold so we moved back in.
That night Kortney and I left the kids with the Granparents for another dinner out.
This time we drove up to Winter Park. Just north of Orlando. We heard about a cool wine bar we wanted to try. (another first)
We arrived without any dinner plans. Of course we still were under dressed so we quickly walked around to try and find a place for dinner. A few doors north of the bar we found a Italian place and were lucky enough o get a table without waiting.
It was even on the outside porch. But the owner put out heat lamps so it was covered
And warm. Really kind of neat. The pizza was GREAT!
I highly recommend trying Pannullo's Italian Restaurant. To me one of my favorite meals of the trip. Then it was off to The Wine Room. Its cool. You buy a debit card any amount you choose.
Then use it to sample any one of 150 different wines they have on tap. Simply insert card, push the button of the wine you wish and you get a nice sized sample. Each varies in price and you can buy up
To 3 different sample sizes. Great way to try new wines, especially for people new to wines.
We talked with the manager and he recommended a couple a wines for us they didnt have on tap
But we are anxious to try.
Day 5: Sea World, Dinner at Universal
Next day we all went to Sea World. Its been years since weve been there so it was nice to do something different. We arrive just past open and first checked out the penguins, then the Sea Lion
And Walrus Show. In hind sight, this is the best show and should be seen twice.
Very funny and fun for the kids. They even had real accidental bloopers. Like the trainer sticks her
Arm in a hole and another arm reaches out at the same time from another hole.
That was supposed to be the gag but because it was cold the second person forgot to pull up their sleeve and it was clearly a different person.
Then it was off to see the Polar Bears followed by Shamu. The kids were only ok with this.
They like Shamu but were bored during the video parts. Lunch followed and then the kiddie rides.
Again Grant loved the kiddie roller coaster and a vertical drop ride.
After we managed to get Grant away from that ,we headed over to the Shark exhibit. Then walked past the Oysters where they had people free diving and holding their breath. The Kids loved to watch this. The were fascinated by the divers. And of course the divers loved Josie.
After that we checked out the pet show. But Josie fell asleep and missed it.
Too bad she would have loved it, Grant enjoyed it.
Then it was off to our final show, the Whale and Dolphin show.
Skip it, its cheesey. Half the show the they have people on ropes swinging around like they are birds. We should have gone back and seen the Sea Lion and Walrus show again.
We finished Sea World by checking out the Ray Lagoon. Kids were kind of scared of that.
We had dinner reservations at Universal Studios Hotel to have dinner with Scooby Doo. The week before I called and they told me it would be Scooby Doo and Shrek.
When we finally found it, and sat down, turns out it as Shrek and Princesses Fiona. What a disappointment. The Characters really didnt even have much interaction. Though Fiona did comment on Josie of course.
We went out of our way to meet Scooby and he wasnt even there.
To me that was ok because I had a migraine by then and couldnt wait to go home.
Finally got back and got sick and went to bed.
Day 6: Beach and Boma
The weather said this was going to be the warmest Day so we headed to Cocoa Beach.
We left about 11am so the kids would nap in the car and it worked perfectly.
They were well rested by the time we arrived.
Though on the way we past the Cruise line ports and the Disney Wonder was sitting there.
It was very tempting to turn in and climb aboard.
The beach was fun. The water was cold so we didnt swim much but we did go in for a little bit. Grant keeps telling us how the waves would push him forward and backwards
And he only got in as high as his kneeds. So your talking inches deep here.
Then spent a lot of time looking for Sea Shells. Nothing great but Grant didnt carem he enjoyed the time.
About 4 we returned home and decided to go to dinner at Boma.
It was just us 4 and not Grandma and Grandpa so the kids where a handful.
So it was a quick meal and we didnt really get to enjoy it as much as we liked.
But afterwards we stopped in the gift shop. Josie found some shoes she like so we looked for Grant too but nothing fit so Grant looked at hats. I finally found one that fit.
A safari hat with pins on it. Pricey but he loved it so we got that.
And that started the pin collecting.
Day 7: Stay at home and swim.
We rested again this day, staying at the house. But it was nice so were able to swim in the pool. Turned out to be a good day. Grant learned to swim without being held.
We put on floaties on his arms and he quickly learned he could paddle around.
He loved it. We swam in the morning and after nap time.
Day 8: Our last day back to the Magic Kingdom.
We started out our day at Boma for breakfast. (first time for breakfast)
It was nice but really not much different that any other breakfast. Kind of disappointing
I was hoping to try a African item or two. But more Comments on Josies eyes.
Then off to the Magic Kingdom. We arrive a little past opening so we headed right for Fantasyland. Grant noticed the restaurant atop Small World so we had to eat there.
The kids loved waving to the people on the ride.
Then off to Goofys Barnstormer again and the train. Then we walked to Tomorrowland and hit our favorites there again. Buzz was a big hit again.
I was getting hungry (and cold) so I thought about eating at Cosmic Rays but Grant wanted to try Astro Orbiter this time so we did that first. Grandma and Grandpa wanted a sit down meal since they dont eat when they fly, they wanted one last meal first.
So we walked to main street, the first looked ok but they wanted to check out Cyrstal Palace first, turns our there was little wait. They said 15 minutes but really was only 5.
So we sat down for a chacarter meal with Pooh, Tigger, Piglet and Eeyore
It was a nice meal. He kids were a bit restless and tired. They are a the end of a vacation
And had been going all day with out naps at the park.
Afterwards Grandma and Grandpa left while we headed for Goofy Barnstormer again.
After checking that out, Josie was a terror, we almost left but decided to try the Carousel
For her, that worked and she was happy again so we hit fantasyland again.
It was getting about 7pm so we asked Grant if he wanted one more ride and he said Jungle Ride. So we headed there. By then the park is 1 hour from close and empty except people waiting for fireworks. So of course there we no line so we walked on.
It was and afterwards Josie needed a change and Grant begged for one more ride so we quickly rode Alladins Carpets while she got changed.
The headed out about 20 minutes before close and ahead of the crowd.
Josie was asleep before we even left the parking lot.
While Grant as asking to go back to Disney World again tomorrow.
Sorry but now he has to wait still Sept 2010.
Day 9: We Fly home.
Pretty uneventfull day but the stewardesses couldnt get enough of Josie and her eyes.
I swear Im not exaggerating. She does get that many comments.
That was our trip. A lot of fun and new things.
Cant wait till 2010. Were staying at the Boardwalk with a Boardwalk view!!!!
Grant will be tall enough for Splash Mountain, Thunder Mountain
And even Tower of Terror if he wants. Hell love the roller coasters.
We get to try Mickeys not so Scary Haloween Party!
And then were going back to the water parks and try Hoop De Do Revue.
And the trip will conclude with a stay at Vero Beach.
2011, will be a 8 nights at 2 bedroom room in Animal Kingdom lodge.
Haloween Party again and Food and Wine festival.
