I am renting a car at the airport (MCO) and returning it to the airport.

I will only be driving in Orlando. I will be going to Universal and then to WDW.

Will I need to drive on any toll roads/toll ways? I am trying to determine if I will need to purchase the Plate pass option from the rental car company to cover the tolls.

Thanks!

Between Orlando Int'l Airport to the tourist corridor, there are two tolls in each direction, regardless of whether you use the northern route (528 to I-4) or the southern route (417 to exit 6).

With most rental car companies at MCO, there is no "opt in" decision to use toll-by-plate. If you go through an electronic toll (on purpose or accidentally), you automatically "agree" to pay the toll and service charge.

The service charges vary by rental company. See https://www.sunpass.com/rentalcar

When driving to and from the airport, you can pay all tolls at "Change-Receipt" toll booths without incurring an additional service charge. Just pay attention. The cash toll lanes can look somewhat like highway exits, so they're easy to overlook if you don't expect an exit for many miles.

There are also surface street routes to and from the airport, but they're awkward, time-consuming, and take more gasoline. It's not worth the small amount of money your would save.

There are no tolls along I-4, so you can visit WDW, SeaWorld, Universal, and popular shopping destinations without tolls.
