On the back of Sam's thread re procedure after landing at Orlando International..... I have a question for you veterans:

We arrive at Orlando International at 11pm their time (...our body clocks will be set at 4am). As this is our first trip there we've opted to stay overnight at an airport hotel rather than attempt to get our hire car and drive whilst v.tired in an unfamiliar car along dark unfamiliar roads to our villa.

We're staying at Amerisuites Orlando Northwest. There's supposed to be a shuttle bus from the airport to this hotel. We've been advised that this service will be operational at that time. Has anyone used shuttle buses at that time and where do they run from?

Our hire car is from Alamo at the airport and we plan to pick it up the next morning (or afternoon, depending when we surface from our deep slumber!) - I seem to think that Alamo is based on a site away from the airport, is this the case? I'm wondering how easy its going to be to get there from the hotel.

Hi Janet & Terry
Alamo is about 1 mile from the airport. I know this won't help much and we have never used shuttle buses but wanted you to know Alamo isn't actually on site at the airport. Think your'e doing the right thing staying in a hotel first night rather than attempting to drive but once out on those roads you'll love it.

Make sure you have the hotels phone number etc in case your late and their bus stops running, cabs arn't expensive if your stuck.

ALAMO
Either grab a taxi to the depot or take the hotel shuttle back to the airport, then hop onto one of the many Alamo busses. Might be better doing this early before checking out so you dont have to drag your luggage along. ...Thinking about it...get a cab for a few bucks saves all the greif :)

Thanks.

D'oh! Dave - why didn't I think of taxis?! Talk about not seeing the wood for the trees! (Do they not charge double rates after midnight like they do over here? Don't suppose it matters when you're desperate to lay your weary head)

DH had already thought of going ahead alone to Alamo to collect car - to save us lugging the luggage. But, yeah, we could all pile into a taxi
