Hello,

My son and I are going to make these as Christmas presents for his nursery teachers.

I am not normally so dim when it comes to baking, but I wanted to check before we started making these.

When it says you put the oreos in the food processor, do I scrape out the white icing? or just process it all together?

Now I just hope they will like them as I don't fancy buying 7 presents for them all.

Thank you in advance.

Kirsten

Just throw the whole cookie into the processor and process it into a fine crumb. Oreo truffles are awesome, yummy treats - have fun! :thumbsup2

MMMM, oreo truffles are THE BEST!!! Yep, I always buy the double stuffed oreos and use those, cream and all!!! I'm sure his teachers will love them. I have a friend who is not a big fan of chocolate and when he tried them (I made him ;)) he says to me...."now you know I don't like chocolate that much but I could eat a few of those everyday!!!" LOL

Thanks guys, I knew someone on here would be able to help.

Has anyone ever made these with Baker's White Chocolate instead of semi-sweet? Just wondering how they turn out.

I use the bakers in the cup that you microwave. I use the milk chocolate, dark and white all. It is so easy. I've done either dark or milk and then drizzle the white over and they are a huge hit!

Thanks!

Every year I make treats for DH's office during the holidays and I think I'll make these this year since we received a new food processor as a wedding gift recently!

Dear God, woman! Are you insane!?!?!?!? :scared1::scared1::eek:

;)

Oreo Truffles are great. DW makes them for Christmas each year - we do milk, white, sometimes dark, and drizzle with opposite colors. She has been forbidden by some of her younger cousins from bringing anything else to the family Christmas. :thumbsup2

Thanks for asking, I was thinking about making some this year!

I also want to make the Nutter Butter version of this. There's a local place that does Cake Balls, and I tried their Nutter Butter ball the other day. It was SO FREAKIN' GOOD! Only difference is that instead of just using cream cheese as a binder, they add more peanut butter. They also don't grind it too finely, so it's just a nice crunchiness to it.

Man I'm hungry!

Last year I made these truffles with mint extract! They were so good. Then I got advanturious and made a batch with raspberry extract. OMG!!!! is all I can say. When I make a normal batch I add 1tsp of vanilla extract. All my neighbors keep coming over and asking if I've started making them yet:rotfl:.

I do have a question. Last year when melting the chocolate I used a metal bowl over a pot of water (like a double boiler) but it was a pain in the butt. I can't mircowave chocolate for the life of me. It never turns out right. So I was wondering if I can melt chocolate in a crockpot? Can I just turn it on and drop the chocolate in the pot. Will it burn if I do it that away? Or should I put some water in the crockpot and then place one of those crockpot bags in it and then place the chocolate in the bag. I don't have a ton of counter space either, so being able to plug in the crockpot and sitting at the table and dipping all those balls will be so much easier for me!! So what do you all think?

Thanks

I have a similar question to PP.......how long do they stay "good"??? I made them last year and they were gone in days, but I want to give some as gifts and rather than make several batches different days, I'd like to do it all in one day.

Also, do you store yours in the fridge?? I did last year and just brought them out a 30 minutes before serving.

Sorry, not from your fine country thought I was doing well finding the oreos at my local supermarket :)

Anyway after all these posts of such high recommendation I can't wait to try them out. I wonder how many will actually make it to be gifts.

I don't have food processor, but I do have a blender...would using that work?? Barb

You can also use the Peppermint Joe Joe's from Trader Joes for the mint kind. We also sprinkle them with holiday sprinkles like you put on cookies or try sea salt if you like chocolate and salt together-YUMMMMMMMM

I totally impressed my entire family with these over Thanksgiving. The only reason we did them was because the kids were bored and wanted something to do. I've never thought about putting extract in them, though. I'll have to try that the next time.

As for the OP's question, I ask the same thing any time a recipe calls for Oreos (pie crust, whatever). I never know if you're supposed to scrape or not. My mom used to make this ice cream dessert thing, and she'd sit there scraping out Oreos all day long. So I totally get where you're coming from!
