Ordering question

I scanned thru the posts, but didn't see this exact question...

We're planning on doing the QS plan this trip. We have a 9 year old, but we're planning on listing him as 10 and getting the adult QS plan for him.

Most of the time he's going to choose something from the adult menu, but would there be an issue with him ordering from the child's menu on occasion even though he has the adult plan? I wouldn't figure it would be an issue...since technically we'd be the ones "out" the money, but thought I'd try to find out before we made our final plans.

Thanks!
Lea

DON'T list him as 10!!!
adult and child credits are interchangeable at QS locations.
it would be a dumb move to pay more for no reason.
and you would not just be paying more for the dining plan but also the theme park tickets.

Are you paying for the plan, or is it part of a "free" dining package?

It's during the "free" dining promo. Does that make a difference?

We were originally going to upgrade to the TS plan, but it's a larger group and (quite honestly) I don't want to deal with the hassle of making reservations because I don't know how we'll actually handle the parks when we're there.

We have 8 adults going, 1 17 yr old, 3 children (9, 11, 12). The 9 and 12 year old are the pickiest of the group. The 9 yr old's diet consists mainly of beef, fries and pasta. He's the smallest, but eats like an adult (more than me, normally). The 12 year old is the fussiest. She's another one that would likely want to pick something from the kid's menu if given the option.

it being free really doesn't matter.

if you list the 9yr old as 10 you're gonna pay more for the theme park ticket.

if you are getting the AS dining plan the adult and child credits are interchangeable and it would make no sense for you to pay more for the theme park ticket for no reason at all.

Just to clarify then...if we list him as 9 (which, in truth, will be his age at the time of the trip) we can order from the adult menu and it will be allowed. (that's not what it said in the pinned children's CS post in this section...granted that thread was started in 2010 and I didn't go thru all 22 pages). I'd venture to say that at least 90% of the time he'd need to eat the adult portion and the other 10% the kid's option would either be him or me eating that meal (and him eating my meal). (does that make sense?)

Everything I've read both on here and on the disney site says that if we list him as 3-9 and purchase any dining plan, we have to order from the children's menu where available.

And if the 12 yr old wants to order from the child's menu...even though she has an "adult" ticket...that will be allowed as well?

We've been to WDW twice, and both times were during free dining. We did the regular dining plan then, so this will be the first time doing just the QS plan. Our 9 yr old was 3 and 5 the last time we went, so it wasn't that big of an issue to order from the children's menu then.

the changes officially took place on may 31st 2015.

The change has not been officially confirmed unless I've missed something...Dining plan brochures still say that guests 3-9 must order from kids' menus where available.

Age him up to 10. The extra $20 you pay for a park ticket is worth the piece of mind that comes from not trying to cheat the system.

who is trying to cheat the system?
he IS 9.
The OP wanted to order adult meals for the 9 year old.

Who has reported that children's credits can be used for adult meals? Even the 2016 brochure still says they have to order from the children's menu. Only some random blogs with no creditable source, along with the loophole that has existed from the beginning. When the plan says that kids order from the kids menu, trying to use kids credits for adult meals is blatantly "cheating the system."

To clarify, no one is saying that paying child prices for a 9-year-old is cheating. The problem is if you want the 9-year-old to be able to eat like an adult while following the rules, then you have to pay the adult prices unless something changes. During free dining the upgrade cost is small. I agree with doing it for the peace of mind of following the rules as laid out by Disney.

To actually answer your original question, OP, you will have no problem with any of the adults or "Disney adults" ordering off the kids' menu if they choose to do so at any QS restaurant!

Also to clarify...I was fully prepared to pay the "adult" price for my 9 year old. I wasn't ever planning to "cheat" the system. :) I know how much he can eat and I'm good with paying for what he eats. If it's not officially confirmed that the kids and adult are interchangeable, I'd rather not risk it at this point.

My main question was if we have 2 kids on the adult plan, can we order from the child's menu (at the CS places that have one) using the adult plan.

But the official WDW site has not noted the change and still states "Children ages 3-9 must order from the Children's Menu (if one is available)." (https://disneyworld.disney.go.com/vacation-packages/2015/quick-serve-dining/). No one (on this thread) has said that the change wasn't reported - just that it has not been officially reported, so your links to non-official sites are actually contradicting anything anyone has said.

OP - you should have no trouble with what you want to do. Enjoy your trip!

Just one remark. If you estimate that ne of your kids is orderung a child menu anyway, then it might make sense not to upgrade (if it costs more) your youngest. You could still use his child credit for one of the other kids.
Having said this, we upgraded our 8 year old to disney adult for being a picky eater and I am still glad I did, but we are on the normal DP and it was long before the changes were "rumored"... Not sure if I would do it for the QSDP if I was sure, one of my kids might want a kids meal. Depends on the cost...

I guess the free dining thing does come in to play with the cost. I just checked online and it's about a $20 difference between listing him at 9 and listing him at 10. Not worth the hassle of "hoping" that the changes would be accepted at all of the restaurants.

If we were paying for the plan and doing the normal DP, I would highly consider keeping one child plan. Between the 9 and 12 yr old, we'd probably have more kids menu picks than we do with the QS menu at some of the TS restaurants. But that's a moot point for us. :)
