Ordering OOP while on the free dining plan....

My DD and I will be enjoying the free dining in September.

Is it true that if you order a beer or a glass of wine with your meal, you are charged tax plus an automatic 18% gratuity?

And if that is the case under the plan, does the same apply if you are just ordering something separately (ie just buying a beer, no food or use of the plan)?

I believe that you are only charged tax on your OOP choices -- for example, since alcoholic beverages are not on the DDP, you would receive a receipt for the alcoholic beverage plus tax. It is your responsibility to pay your server the 18% gratuity, just like in any other restaurant/bar you visit. I believe the exception for this is if your party exceeds 6 people -- maybe 8 people -- then the tax and the gratuity are added to your receipt before you receive it. I know this for fact, because it happened to us in DL at Goofy's Kitchen (character breakfast). Great by the way -- one of our best meals there and awesome character interaction -- loved the "Tiki" dance!

I was charged an 18% gratuity on my glass of wine at Coral Reef last year because my DH commented on that when we got the bills.

They give you a bill, just check and see. If you don't understand the bill, ask for an explanation. Of course, if you have several litres at Biergarten, it may become difficult to understand.

Yes, if you order any item(s) not 'covered' by the Disney Dining Plan when you are using that as your method of payment, tax and an automatic 18% gratuity are added to the OOP items.

When you are paying for everything OOP, only tax is included in the check - except when, as posted above, your party meets or exceeds a certain size, in which case yes, the gratuity is also included in the check.

Yes, the 18% is added automatically to all extra purchases.

i'm glad you brought this up cause we will be having some adult beverages when we go for our free dining trip and i will be using my dde card for that ticket to save me a little $.
