Has anyone out there ordered groceries from Vons or Albertsons using a canadian credit card and if so how did you do it? I am trying to order right now and the billing info doesn't allow for cnd addys so in calling the number I was told that neither is designed to accept cc payment from anything other than a us card.

However, that said- a friend was down there in May and ran into several families from Canada that ordered groceries online from Vons using a Canadian CC.

So if you have done it or know how to do it- please share.
Thank you

You can't add the Canadian address for the billing information. Some people have put the hotel address as the billing info (but I would think then the card would not work because the info is not correct....). Other people have used the loadable credit cards (like Mastercard Vanilla) that have no address, so you could use the hotel address when entering that info.

Bumping this thread as I'm also wondering about using a ccd with overseas address to purchase groceries online.

There must be a way...... any ideas ???

See I am thinking that the only problem is the billing address as the system is not set up to recognize anything other than us billing addresses.

That said- I am going to try a workaround and use the hotel addy as the billing address although I am going to call VISA first and make sure that this is something that I can do without causing a flag on my account.

Here's what one nice DIS'er from Calgary PM'd me when I asked her about this:

"I used a Royal Bank Visa - not sure if we just slipped thru the cracks, or what, but on the online order form, they asked for delivery address, then CC info, then the zip code from the billing address. I simply gave them the hotel zip code, and somehow it worked! Perhaps we were only lucky!"

I know that there can be a charge to purchase a pre-paid c.c. If anyone can post their Canadian credit card grocery delivery success stories, please post. Thanks! :)

Great idea, and please let us know that they say! Thanks!

Also - for Canadians going to Disneyland - you should always phone your credit card company a little ways in advance to let them know you will be traveling to the U.S.A. - some c.c. companies have a safety measure in place that will decline the card when used in a different location such as the U.S.A. , so it is always better for you if you let them know ahead of time. :)

Thanks everyone for these ideas. I'll try using the hotel's zip code and see what happens.

What is the usual delivery protocol? Do they deliver all the way to your room or do they dump it in reception and you get a message to collect?

Thanks

nzers - from what I understand, you just need to alert the front desk that you're expecting a grocery delivery, and they'll alert you when it comes. If you're not in your room, they'll hold it for you. Best to call your particular hotel to be sure of their policies. I'm doing this, too, in October, and am so excited!

Sorry - to update I have been told by a few people that they just faked the address. I forgot to ask VISA when I was talking to them to let them know about our trip because we have friends in Arizona that are meeting us and they are actually going to pickup our list at the same time that they do theirs to save the stress.
Sorry- but thank you for all the input. And also nzers I did call the hotel in advance and tell them that there was a grocery order for us and they would accept it at the front desk but told me that they had no fridge. I am sure for the promise of a tip I could have persuaded one of them to place it in our room for our arrival.
