I am thrilled that our Houston branch have decided to go to WDW with us, and our DGS’s will be 6 and 7. It will be three park days, four nights. Rather then waste time shopping, I was thinking that of the grocery services available, Publix would have more organic foods to offer.

Is that a correct assumption? Do they offer a wider variety of international foods?

Who has used Publix? Would you recommend them?

Trip takes place in October...I am so psyched!

Bobbi,

I just used Publix/Instacart last week while we were staying at VGF. I had absolutely no issues with them. I was kept informed from the minute I placed the order, and everything arrived within the window I requested. It was much cheaper than the other services (Wegoshop, Garden Grocer). The only thing I wished was that I could place my order a few days ahead. They like the order on the day it is to be delivered. However, it was no big deal. I placed the order before I got on the plane.

Good luck!

Thank you! Our family will be getting on a plane around 5, so they will have time to put the order in.

We used them for Thanksgiving this past year and it was great. I placed my order a couple of days before the delivery date wanted. I specifically asked for a delivery time before I got on the plane so I would be available to the shopper. She texted me through the app when substitutions needed to be made and sent me photos of the shelves in the refrigerator, freezer, and open shelving in bell services. It was a very large order for 9 people three meals a day for a week. It went very smoothly.

We loved Publix (instacart)! Had absolutely no issues. Our shopper let us know through the app when she started shopping, and asked if we needed anything else and even cancelled an item or two we realized we didn't need. We ordered subs for arrival night dinner by the pool and were able to customize them even (the shopper went to the deli and had them made to order). Needless to say, we gave a big tip.

Does Instacart deliver right to your room or do you have to meet them?

If your order contains alcohol you will have to meet them at Bell Services. If your order does not contain alcohol it can be left with Bell Services, and you would then call Bell Services to have them deliver it to your room (and you would have to be in your room and should give a tip).

I've done Publix through Instacart several times and never had an issue. They will deliver to bell services. The only hiccup we ran into was ordering alcohol. Their policy is you have to meet them at delivery for alcohol, but some drivers are more lenient than others. Of course if your order does not include alcohol there is no need to meet them. We found Publix to be wonderful woth a wide selection of groceries and much cheaper than other options.

You need to meet them.
They will leave your order with bell services if they know your last name and room number. We've never had a problem having bell services hold frozen food and deliver to our room when we got back from parks.

That's been our experience as well (they will leave with Bell Services and we can call them to bring it to our room) as long as the order does not contain alcohol.

Indicate in the order comments to refrigerate/ freeze items that require it and Bell Services will do that. Every time we have ordered, our shopper has put refrigerated items into one bag and frozen into another to make this easy.

We've used Publix/Instacart quite a bit recently while staying at WDW. I always put as much info into the delivery address as possible such as building, room#, floor etc. Many times they brought it right to the room, some times not. We always had beer/wine:drinking1 in the order so we made sure we were in the room to show ID. At CCV @Wilderness Lodge they wouldn't bring it to the room, at Kidani, one time they wouldn't, another time they did. At OKW and SSR they brought it to the room no problem. I think with exterior entrances like OKW and SSR it's easier for them to bring it right to your room without having to deal with Bell Services and possibly making enemies!:)

Thanks, I guess I only answered half the question. They can’t come to the room. If you don’t meet them they leave it with bell service.

Can you order fresh groceries in addition to something like a case of water? Is there a minimum or fee? Is Instacart an app?

HEB is another favorite but they aren't in the Dallas area, it's a 60 mile drive each way. :drive:

:earsboy: Bill

Not all HEBs are made the same. Some are awesome. Others are not. In Seguin we have Walmart, HEB and Arlans. Arlans is not someplace I'd want to shop. HEB and Walmart are about equal, they are both so busy, the parking is horrible. New Braunfels has 3 HEBs, a WalMart and a Target...we really need another store in Seguin. I often drive to NB to shop.

Wow. I didn't know so many of you were in TX too. I agree that not all HEB's are the same. I have used the closer to my house for almost 6 years. I recently had to switch to another one because mine was always out of stuff and understaffed, especially in the deli with the staffing. I am fortunate enough to live in a large suburb that has many, many grocery stores around, so I am going to another HEB now. Just yesterday, I gave my old HEB a try, and I ended up having to go to WalMart to get a few things because HEB was out. What were they out of? Our preferred dog food and La Croix! It wasn't just because it was a holiday either. This has become a regular thing no matter which day of the week I go! Sorry. It's been "a thing" for me having to switch stores. I feel good that I've vented about that.

Regarding Publix, we LOVE it. We are actually headed to the beaches of Florida (non-WDW Florida trip) soon and I am going to do a list ahead of time with either Instacart or curbside for Publix if they have that. I haven't looked into it yet with curbside, but I know they have Instacart. While I am not a key lime pie lover, I have been told by all my family members that theirs is delicious! Also, they sell 1/2 pies for times when it's only for a couple of people. :)
