ordering from dinner menu at lunch

I would like to order the steak from dinner menu at chef de france. Has anyone done this?

The chefs are ready for lunch at lunch.

I've had issues doing this before in France and Italy.

You can ask, but most likely not.

In France it was related to prep work that had to be done for the item.
It was a puff pastry crab dish they used to have, I never did get to try that.
If they have the steaks there then they may do it for you.

In Italy they were very strict (Alfredo's -these guys always had a bad attitude).
Great food though.

It was only 35 minutes before dinner (walk up not an ADR) and they would not let me order from the Dinner menu.
So everyone at my table ordered and I just ordered a drink.
35 minutes later I asked for the Dinner menu and ordered what I wanted.
Totally Ridiculous.

(Also I would keep trying for an ADR at a better time. France usually isn't all that hard to get)

Most places I have been will not allow a dinner entree to be ordered at lunch. This is usually due to the fact that the dinner meals are not prepped and it would throw the line off. Stuff is not cut, sauces are not made, sides are not finished... stuff like that.

I would not count on being able to.

Thanks everyone for your input! I am sure that I can find something wonderful to order on the lunch menu but I thought that I would ask the experts out there.

Often restaurants will allow a lunch item at Dinner but not a dinner item at lunch.The reason is that the prep stuff for dinner ( like an assembly line) is NOT ready at lunchtime, it is set up for lunch
