Never done this before so I'm not really sure what the policies are regarding ordering things off the dinner menu at lunch. Anybody have any experience with this? Thanks!

Seems to be hit or miss. A lot hedges on if they have the dinner items prepped yet. You will simply need to ask when you get there and have a backup plan just in case.
I once had dinner and the Rose and Crown and was disappointed to find out that the shepard's pie was only on the lunch menu. When I expressed that to the server they spoke with the chef who agreed to make it for me! You never know, all you can do is ask.
I think you are more likely to get a lunch item at dinner rather than a dinner item at lunch, especially on DDP - some of the dinner entrees are much pricier. Also note, some kitchens have different set-ups for different meals - they might not even be equipped to make the item you want.
I've gotten lunch items at dinner but never tried the other way around. I imagine, as others have said, it will depend on the item. If it is something that they can prepare in a relatively short about of time without much hassle they probably will. I think the closer to you go the over lap (either an early dinner or a late lunch) the better your chance will be since the item might be about to be served or has just finished being served.
