Ordered a Canon SX-1

Well, this may be the triumph of hope over experience, but I have today ordered an Canon SX1IS.

When Canon were updating the S5IS they did so in two flavours. Both had the 28-560mm equivalent zoom. The SX10IS, with a conventional CCD sensor, is available just now.

The SX1 has the same lens and the same 10Mpixels, but has got a CMOS sensor that allows it to record 1080p HD video. I've hummed and hawed about it many times, but if this camera does live up to its promises it seems a great vacation camera. Small sensor cameras can do well when you've got bright sunny weather, it's got a phenomenal zoom range, good quality IS, it's compatible with the Canon flashgun I already have and it takes HD video.

Mind you, that HD video fills SD cards at quite a rate :-)

The camera doesn't get introduced into the UK until the first week of December. I should get it a day or two after that. I'll let you know how it works out.

regards,

I'm waiting with bated breath for this!:hyper: :hyper:

I don't know if you've seen the SX10 review from Camera Labs, http://www.cameralabs.com/reviews/Canon_PowerShot_SX10_IS/

The reviewer seems to think the SX1 will be the SX10 with the extra video and speed, but there was an interview with a Canon exec on DP review which, to me, read as though they don't expect the image quality to match the SX10. I don't bother with the video, but the 4fps of the SX1 would be nice, so the best of the two on IQ will get my vote. I'm going to wait for a look at some sample shots or user reviews before I decide which one to get.
