Hi guys! We have never done any of the backstage experienecs at Busch Gardens and wondered if anyone had done the Orangutan and Tiger one (think in Jungala) which lasts for a couple of hours!? What do you actually get to do? Would you recommend it?

I did this tour in July and had a great time. I was the only one on the tour. You start in the tiger habitat and the education guide tells you a great deal of information about the tigers they have at BG. Then you go over to the Orangutan habitat and the education guide tells you about the orangutan group. This is all done right in the exhibit and sometimes other park guests stop by to listen in. Then the education guide takes you behind the scenes to the orangutan house. You get to meet with the keeper and ask any questions you may have. There are always some orangutans behind the scenes - they break the group up and only some are on display. The keepers show you how the have training sessions with the orangutans. They are so smart - they like to make necklaces and other crafts - so cute. My only negative comment is that I would have liked to have more hands on - maybe give the orangutan a hand signal or something. You just get to watch the keeper do the training.

Then you go over to the white cheek gibbon and get to participate in some target training with one of the gibbons. They are very cute and very food motivated. They are interesting because the males are black, the females are blond, the babies are born blond, then turn black, then finally turn to the color for their gender.

Last stop is behind the scenes in the tiger exhibit. The Keepers show how they weigh the tigers, how they move the tigers from place to place (all done with a tiger right in front of you!). You also do some target training with the tigers. They are so beautiful. Their coloring is amazing. Then you go back up the the exhibit and get to feed a tiger some meatballs through a tube. All the keepers were so nice and informative. If you like animals - you'll love this tour.
