It's "buzzing" its way out of DCA tomorrow. Any thoughts on this?

Enjoyed the ride, I though it was very relaxing. Hate to see it go.

I for one, will miss it. It is one of my favorites in DCA. :)
I am sure I am in the minority though, as my family hates it and only rides it to indulge me. I hear it's going to be out a long time being re-done. Over a year, right?

The ride itself is not going anywhere. The Orange is being removed and the ride is getting a whole new theme. It should look very nice when all of the changes are completed. Although it's a ride that I can ride whenever at my local amusement park, it will be nice to swing out over the water.

WHOA WHOA WHOA!!! Hold up a minute, the schedule on the DL website say that Sunday 7/26 is the last day. It shows it open until then and closed on the 27th.:confused3

Where is this info coming from?

We were planning a trip to DCA just for this ride the 26th when we fly in.

I'm so sad - that is one of my son's favorite rides! We liked to buzz to each other loudly as we are riding it...

I didn't see ANY notice that was closing soon and we were there until yesterday, the girls rode it on Saturday with NO wait and there was not information about it going down quite yet.

As a ride, it was kind of fun, but as an attraction in a Disney theme park it was sorely lacking in what I've come to expect. Knowing that it was going down soon didn't even remotely tempt me to ride it over the 4th of July weekend.

All that said, I'm very excited about the Silly Symphony makeover. I think it's great that they're themeing it to The Band Concert and am excited to see the new and hopefully much improved version when that time comes.

I'll miss the orangey smell :(

I only went on it once (with a kidney infection, no less LOL) But didn't this last time. Maaaannn

what's the new theme again?

I rode it for the first (and last) time on Sunday, knowing it was closing tomorrow. I enjoyed it, which means I know I will enjoy Silly Symphony Swings even better!

Silly Symphony Swings is going to be themed to the Mickey Mouse cartoon "The Band Concert", which is not even a Silly Symphony cartoon...but whatever. :confused3 Here's what it's supposed to look like:

A vast aesthetic improvement over the giant orange peel, so I'm okay with it. Not thrilled that they felt the need to give yet another attraction a cartoon theme, but I guess that's what people seem to want these days.

Thrilled it's going away. I live in California and have never understood the idea of a theme park meant to emulate the very state that you are already in (as a resident or a tourist). It's sort of like having the Haunted Mansion ride inside a mansion that was already haunted. Ok, stupid analogy but you get my drift, I imagine :rotfl:

I also think the idea that the original theme of California Adventure would somehow be as engaging for folks as the classic Disney creations- and the new Disney/Pixar creations- laughable at best and downright 'reasons for Disney stockholders to revolt' at worst.

When I come to a park called DISNEYland, I want Disney stuff...or at least imaginative, creative stuff (i.e. Star Wars and Indy are a fine fit in my opinion). So I am thrilled the swings are going to emulate The Band Concert.
And I constantly look at the big, color map of the new CA in the current D23 issue and long for the day when I can enter the park and the current makeover will be done...and I never have to think about Pizza Ooh Mow Mow or Mullholland Madness or the Orange Stinger again :lmao:

Well me too, BUT this isn't in DLand, it's in CA Adventure.....two different parks. I LIKE the CA theme, I think it's fun and catchy and I wish they didn't have to change to a cartoon ride, but I don't work for them so......

Thanks for posting the pic!

Ok I remember reading about the silly symphony swings now..I'm undecided LOL

It's still very Carnival to me. My question is..What is the POINT? Like, this new theme, they're still keeping it boardwalky right? So the rides they ARE keeping make sense at least a LITTLE?

I liked CA. But I don't live there, so the theming for the state it was already in wasn't redundant to me LOL

Well sure, and to each his/her own. If you dig the theme, I'm sorry for you that it is- to a large extent- being phased out.

But it's actually called Disney's California Adventure and I think most folks expect a Disney vibed park. Heck, I imagine before too long, both parks will just morph into a single park. Altho Disney will need to find a way to charge for both parks at that point.

But the whole thing does have me thinking: why did they scrap the plan for a west coast Epcot to begin with?

I would rather see them throw that money at developing or creating another attraction altogether, all this "revamping" of the same ride to look like something at a County Fair does very little for my excitement level.

Bigger fish to fry than tinkering with a marginal attraction like the Orange.
