Who can tell me if Orange Lake is a good resort?

We have friends who are going and considering a stay at Orange Lake for the price of a Value Resort, they get a 2BR and access to the water park.

Has anyone stayed at Orange Lake?

I know Holiday Inn Club Vacations took over the ongoing management of the resort back in 2008... was that a good thing? Bad Thing?

Also... since it is on the back side of the Animal Kingdom park property... I have heard you can smell the animals.... is that true?

Thanks for any an all responses!

. . . everyone has access to the "water park"
. . . everyone also pays to rent tubes, etc

. . . we own 2-weeks there

. . . Holiday DID NOT take over
. . . it is strictly a marketing arrangement
. . . the heirs to Kemmons Wilson (originator of HI) still own it

. . . you can hear the elephants
. . . no smells
. . . no views of AK

NOTE: We bought our weeks on the resale market. Instead of the $13,000-$35,000 that Orange
Lake wants, we paid less than $2,000 for each week. Can't beat a deal like that. I wish more
people would buy resale than from developers!

We own a week, we love it! Short commute to the park, we can do laundry, great pools, decent food, great if we make it in our kitchen. Our two bedroom has LCD tvs, a spa tub screened balcony. For the money it's amazing. Maybe not for everyone, but great. Only wish is that they had a park shuttle.

Oh and if your buying try eBay, we were a little worried, but all said we were under $700 fees included for our August week.

How does this property fit in to Holiday Inn's overall Club Vacations Portfolio?
If Holiday Inn didn't take over, how does the partnership work?

Where can we look for resales? Any preferred resellers? What portion of the resort has active sales through the developer?

Is this property part of RCI?

Once again, thanks for all the info!

We have traded through RCI. It is owned by Holiday Inn and we have used Priority Club points to stay there. We have also stayed with friends that own.

So having stayed there 3 times, I know it is an excellent resort. We have stayed in East Village, West Village and River Island. All 3 were in excellent condition and the grounds are beautiful. Excellent location.

I have seen resales on Red Weeks. There are a bunch on there right now.

Good Luck.
