I would prefer not to have to pack formal clothes and skip the formal dinner. I figured we could order room service and hang out by the pool or catch a movie. Do people usualy have on their formal clothes for shows and movies. I just wonder if we will feel out of place on formal night.

I don't think so. You will be surprised to see that many people (including our family) really do not enjoy dressing up. I do manage to put on a dress shirt and tie, but that is as far as it goes. Many don't even go that far, my wife usually just puts on a simple black dress.

Some will dress for dinner and go to the show afterward. Others will not dress for the show and then go back to the stateroom and get dressed before dining. There really is ever imaginable combination so don't worry about not wanting to dress. A lot of people dine at topsiders and pass on formal night completely.

I agree with Buddy Bear...btw...we're NJ folk, too. We had late dinner seating and at the show before, there were evening gowns, tuxedos, suits, street-length dresses, dockers and golf shirts and t-shirts and shorts. You name it. Normally, DH and I aren't much for dressing up either but you might want to give it a try. It was really a lot of fun, basically because we seldom do it. The captain's reception in the lobby is awesome.

New Jersey here also!

Don't skip your dining room on formal or semi-formal night just because you don't want to deal with formal wear. We personally enjoy getting dressed up, I even bought a tux for (cheap) for our last crusie. My kids enjoy this as well. We always have late seating and dress for the show.

However, as has been stated, you will not be out of place if you don't get dressed up. You have that option and should do what makes your trip compfortable and enjoyable. Truly you will see people all along the clothing spectrum and for some reason on the ship it doesn't seem weird.

It's just my opinion, but I wouldn't give up the fun of the dining room for room service. And while some folks really enjoy Topsiders for dinner, we get very attached to our serving teams and don't like to miss a night with them, except for Palo.
