We are a family of 5 planning for our visit Disney vacation in Jan 2022. When we visit our boys will be 9 and 6 and our baby girl will be 1 1/2. We are trying to figure out what resort is our best option. We are debating between Caribbean (cost and skyliner), AoA suit (skyliner), Wilderness, Beach Club, and Contemporary. Carribean is $1,500 cheaper. We can afford the extra $1,500, but is it really worth it to stay at a better resort without the skyliner?

We also have these considerations:
1) Transportation is very important because one parent and the baby will need to leave theme parks early for naps.
2) We are spending two days at Magic Kingdom and two days at Hollywood (Galaxy's Edge).
3) We will have a stroller.

Thank you so much for your help!

Could you do a split stay perhaps- CR or WL for MK days and then CBR for HS. Direct line from CBR to HS on Skyliner. Save a little bit of money.

That's a great idea! Do you like Wilderness or Contemporary? I'm completely new to this, but it matters to me so much!

Never stayed at CR but WL is gorgeous resort. There is boat service to MK

Not sure of your dates, but just be aware that the Epcot portion of the Skyliner line is down for refurbishment for part of January 2022:

From January 23 through January 28, 2022, Disney Skyliner service between Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort, Disney’s Riviera Resort and Epcot will be out of operation for refurbishment. Complimentary bus service will be available.

We just returned from our trip with 3 adults & 2 kids, five & one & a half. We stayed the first half at Beach Club villas in a one bedroom. I have always preferred regular hotel rooms, but having the extra space, plus a kitchen & washing machine was wonderful! We’ve also always done split stays just to be able to access the parks easily. We moved to a Magic Kingdom resort for our second half. As much as we love Wilderness Lodge, I think the rooms are a little too small for a family of five, especially if you need room for a pack & play.
I'm sure wherever you stay that it will be a trip your kids will never forget! Well, except for the baby!

Based on your family size/kids ages and days at MK & DHS, here is my two cents- take it for what it is. Top choices/almost interchangeably would be Beach Club and AoA.

1-Beach Club (would do a studio so you get the under TV pull down as an extra bed for the kiddos, my kids love those. Walking to DHS/Epcot and/or skyliner is another perk. And the boardwalk area is a fun area. PLUS Stormalong bay- the pool is amazing. Now granted as a Floridian, I don't enter a pool until about April or May, your kids may swim in January and that pool and slide area cannot be beat. If you don't plan on swimming then I would go with AoA.
2. AofA- the suite is great for a family of 5 and the skyliner is a great for your days for DHS. At your kids ages, they will love the theming, probably more so than Beach Club. In which case you know your kids best, so AofA may be a better choice for you all especially with kids. Food court is easy to grab stuff with kids and the buses aren't usually terrible.

Of the remaining choices, CBR and Contemporary would be great for your DHS and MK days respectively. Wilderness-super cool theming, Kids may really love that and the pool area is nice. Would be convenient for your MK days but bus only on DHS days. Contemporary never really wowed my kids at that age. The monorail through the lobby is cool but my kids much preferred the value themed resorts at 9 and 6 like AoA and POP. Plus with no epcot monorail right now, I don't see a huge benefit to staying at the monorail resorts. Hopefully by January it's back.

CBR is nice as some rooms have the pull down bed under the TV so that would be fun for the kids and you get the skyliner. The buses at CBR are the worst IMO of all the Mods. It's also a really large resort so unless you have a preferred room, you will be walking alot. And if you decide on pirate rooms for the kids, they are far from everything and the beds are not that comfy. So really for me, the last three ranked-- I would pick Contemporary for the proximity-walkability/monorail to MK, then Wilderness- boat transport to MK and then CBR. CBR is last for me since I despise the buses. Not that I suspect we'd have a ton of rain in January, the skyliner should be full throttle most days but it does go down sometimes and when it does, the buses aren't fun and can be long waits which would make leaving parks midday for naps a chore.

Edit to add..... I think split stays could be good if you want to experience several resorts but I would not do it if you A-have never done it before and B- definitely not with my whole family which includes a baby. If you need to have a crib for the baby to nap, being homeless and in between resorts for one day on your trip would be a deal breaker for me.

I know you don't know this yet, but any chance the kiddo will be a stroller napper? Honestly if POFQ re-opens anytime soon, I'd pick that as it's equidistant from everything even though it's a bus to everything.

But given that it's not open, CBR looks nice, and we were supposed to stay there on one of our cancelled trips.

dumb question were you planning a single or double stroller? with the 6 year old will the parent be able to carry to transportation and also help the older child if needed at end of day? if at Contemporary will 6 year old walk back at end of day or be too tired? also check dates for skyliner closure. would not want to try to get a toddler and a stroller on a bus as one parent for nap time trip

#1 'transportation is very important'

So I recommend a split stay with a monorail hotel for MK, an Epcot resort for DHS.

I also really like POFQ for their very good bus transportation, small resort size (everything is close) and cost. Unfortunately not open yet but if it does I would also consider that.

Disney is not an 'easy' vacation with young ones in strollers. Folding them up for bus travel is a bit inconvenient but doable. And the amount of walking you do will be insane. That being said, the above comments can lessen your aggravation.

I would recommend against a split stay. Moving on vacation, especially with young kids, would be more stressful and less convenient than staying put and taking a bus on certain days.
I second this- especially if you want to be able to return to a room for naps/breaks. You won't have a room from 11am until 3pm when your next hotel room is available. Yes, there is a chance your room can be ready early but it's not a guarantee. Also, packing up three kids is a pain, if they were older, no issue but a baby and two kids is a hassle and not really worth it.

if you would decide on a split stay the day of move you will most likely not have a room for naptime

One little thing that occurred to me just now - you can walk or take the monorail from MK to CR for naps with the 1 1/2 year old, or you’d take a boat from MK to Wilderness Lodge. I realize you might not be able to tell this yet about her, but would the boat ride to WL take some of the sting away from having to leave her big brothers having fun in MK? PS I love the WL - so gorgeous and peaceful!

Have you been to Disney World before?

I wish I hadn't done a split stay for our last trip. I did enjoy being able to stay at two resorts, but it was more work than just staying at the same place the whole time.

We had a lovely stay at Caribbean Beach several years ago, but keep in mind that there aren't any elevators. I probably wouldn't stay there again with a stroller, unless I would also have a car with me. We were in one of the buildings far from the main building, and it was perfectly fine. We didn't mind the walk.

This likely will be your last opportunity to stay in a single room at the Wilderness Lodge as a family. I'm kind of bummed I didn't do it before I surpassed the occupancy, but oh well.

My 10 year old's favorite parks are Epcot and Animal Kingdom (although Galaxy's Edge wasn't open during our last trip, so that could tip the scales a bit) so I would probably lean more towards the Beach Club.

If you are ONLY planning on 4 days with half at the Magic Kingdom and half at Hollywood Studios, then my top pick of your choices would be the Contemporary. My kids have been hit or miss when it comes to actually making it back to the hotel for a nap. More often than not, they fall asleep on transportation back to the hotel, then wake up before we get back to the room. Being able to keep the child in the stroller the whole time tends to work best.

I tend to lean towards the options that may not be options eventually. For example, choose the more expensive resort while I'm only paying for 2 kids tickets etc.

AoA Suite, 100%. Don't let baby naps drive your vacation. Baby will sleep in the stroller or even take her to the Baby Care Center for a nap (PLEASE tell me you know about the Baby Care Centers!). AoA suite has a bedroom with a door, a small kitchen and a 2nd bathroom. AoA also has maybe THE best QS restaurant. Deluxes are nice but the QS is lacking in all of them. Family of 5 here, we did AoA Suites once then never looked back. DVC BLT now, but got enough points for a 1br.

I do not recommend a split stay with a baby. It is absolutely no fun moving everything, not having a room if you really need one during nap etc. DD now 3, will not stroller nap, we have tried so many times, just doesn't happen. She is always happiest on trips when we stick to her at home schedule, eliminates melt downs for us this way! We also have e DS12, since having DD3, we have been staying in BCV 1 bedroom villas mostly. We have tried BWV and Bay lake tower. The convenience of CR is amazing, but having 2 sleeping areas with a baby plus older kids and adults is priceless! Can you do a 1 bedroom villa at BLT or BCV? That in my opinion is the best option. WL rooms and CBR are tiny for that many people. Good luck on your decision and have a great trip!

I agree about not letting naps rule the day; my kids always napped in the stroller at Disney as little ones. Also, I’d bring a double stroller if you can; I took one until my youngest was maybe 7 (and we needed it after a long day). They were, however, good and tired out so were in bed between 7-8 pm (so we never did fireworks while they were young; we all needed some good sleep).

The AOA suites sound ideal for your family.
