Recently we've had a family member diagnosed with Celiac and we're having a hard time adjusting diets. Are there any gluten-free options (besides just avoiding bread & pasta) in Epcot and the Magic Kingdom?

Also, we have dinner reservations at both Liberty Tree Tavern and Chefs du France.. I know in a lot of places wheat is used as a filler in things such as gravy, so my question is if we brought our own gluten- free gravy for Liberty Tree and our own rice pasta for Chefs, would they cook it as a replacement or is my family member just out of luck?

Thanks in advance.

Due to health codes, chefs won't be able to prepare food you bring along with you. Call Disney Dinig and make sure that the dietary restiction is noted on all your ADRs. While I don't have firsthand experience, I've read that the chefs will do their best to accomodate. Remind them at check-in. The chef will usually come out and discuss the options with the person. They will make substitutions and prepare gluten free portions if they are able to. If you are at a buffet, they will walk them through and point out all the gluten-free options and possibly prepare something gluten-free if possible. Someone with experience is sure to come along soon but Disney does a wonderful job accomodating those with dietary restrictions and allergies.

As pp said, you can not bring your own food to the restaurant for them to cook.

I suggest you go over to the disabilities forum and use the "search this forum" tool and search for celiac or gluten-free.

HERE is one of the big celiac discussion threads.

We're in much the same position, my DH has been diagnosed in the last 12 months.

I've been doing a bit of digging and it seems that if you let Disney know when you're making your ADR's or when you arrive at a restaurant they can have a chef talk you through the menu or buffet when you arrive so that you can make informed choices.

It does seem that Disney take dietary requirmetns very seriously and has won awards for its attitude in this area.

In terms of taking our our food, we'll probably take snack items for DH as he can't just grab a cookie or pretzel like the rest of us can.

My husband has had Celiac's for close to 30 years now and Disney is a great place to go with it.

All the restaurants can accomodate you one way or another. There are some pretty comprehensive threads about this on the Disabilities forum so I suggest you check there!

The only food of your own you might want to bring is snacks for in the rooms, aside from that you will be able to manage fine.

I would suggest going to the disABILITIES Forum and look at Post #3 of the disABILITIES FAQs. There is a large section in that post dealing with special dietary needs, as well as many related links. You can get directly to the disABILITIES FAQs by following the link in my signature.

This is a very common topic of discussion in the disABILITIES Forum.
