Options for character autographs

We usually do the autograph books for character autographs. One year we decided to not get the autographs but just go up to the characters and say hi. The characters were looking for something to sign and I kept finding myself over and over again saying we are just saying hi. So...any ideas on what else we could use or do?

I have thought about getting a white baseball hat and some different colored sharpies and having them sign that but I am not sure how it would work outside of the restaurant meals. I would think that we'd have to bring something hard for them to write on ... maybe a clipboard or something but that seems like too much trouble. I am sure someone here is going to have a great idea!

we always do pillowcases---the kids love sleeping on them when they get home. We use a clipboard and fabric markers. It is a little more work than a book but worth it IMO

Have done a photo mat, a pillowcase, and a beach ball.

Last year I made our family sweatshirts for the mvmcp. We went around befre the party and had the characters sign them (they will NOT sign something you are wearing). Then we wore them the day of the party and had our photos taken with them on. My boys were very excited to wear them to school. Some of the autographs are big so you would not be able to get very many on the hat.

Someone posted this in another thread and I thought it was a great idea. They were going to use the new Junior Encyclopedia of Animated Characters, which comes out in July. If your going before then there are several similar books out there.

This way the characters can sign near pictures of themselves and the kids can enjoy looking through the book afterward and seeing the autographs near the info about each character.

We'll be doing that as well as 4x6 cards. I plan on printing out a bunch of cards with various borders, having characters sign the blank cards (easy to carry) and then taking pictures of the characters with the kids. We'll place them in a small photo album with the signature card on one side and the characters picture w/ kids on the other.
