Anyone use Optimum Voice? We received a mailing the other day from Cablevision giving us a special price if we sign up for Voice since we already have Optimum Online and cable TV (above family cable). DH suggested we give it a try but keep our Verizon service until we are sure we are happy with Voice. (That way we don't lose the phone number we have had for over 20 years!!) Anyone have any good or bad things to say about Optimum Voice in terms of sound quality, billing, etc.?

Thanks!

Lorie

I have this for our phone and just love it. You can access your voicemail from your computer and have not had a problem with it at all. We have had it almost a year and family of ours have had it even longer without any complaints. I say go for it! It is soooo much cheaper. I was paying almost 3x more than what I am paying now. You will love it.

ditto that ! my bill before was outrageops now at ne set price with everything included its great :sunny: esp. the call foward feature i fowarded it to one of our cell phones and just looked at the caller i d before answering :earsboy:

Thanks for your responses! Sounds good to me too. Hate paying those Verizon bills!! :)

One other thing, though. You know how phone bills have all those huge taxes and FCC charges added on? How does it work out with Optimum Voice?

Thank again!

We're saving 50% of what we were paying for idential Verizon service. Good enough for me to switch :cool1: We've had it for about 6 weeks so far and knock on wood, no problems. Changing our # hasn't been bad - we don't get any solicitation/telemarketer calls on our new number :teeth:

Do you have to change your number? I thought you can take your number to whatever provider you use?

Optimum Voice gives you a new number. I believe it is cell phone numbers that you are supposed to be able to take with you to anothe provider.

I just called to inquire and they told me you can take your phone number for a $30 fee. They also said there are no taxes or anything, you just add the $14.95 to your bill (I have the cable and the internet from them too)
Sounds too good to be true...any other thoughts on it, I am really thinking to switch now :)

I have had it from the start, no problems with it. Unlike the phone system, if you lose electric, you will lose your phone. Not a major problem since most people have cell phones.

I have lost service when the electric went out, but I have a cell phone, so not a big deal.

There is no 411, so you need to look in your yellow pages or online (I use www.switchboard.com ).

I love having caller id and call waiting, both of which I would not pay for with verizon. I also like that my number is not listed. I have had it for about 1 1/2 years.

Oh, I did have a problem with no dial tone, I seemed to be in area that had some problem. I had to disconnect my modem and get a new link and it was ok, or I just called my home number from my cell and for some reason after that I was able to get a dial tone. My neighbor had the same problem for a little while too, but there is a lot of new building around here, so I think that had something to do with it.

Anyway, I was glad to get rid of my phone number because my number was an old business number and I kept getting wrong calls. It was also one off from Sears hardware LOL.

Good Luck!

I just called them again to make sure I understood everything right, it seems too good to be true!! :goodvibes
You can take your number with you for $30. There's no installation fee or taxes or anything!!! :cool1: That;s amazing to me...now we just have to check if it works with our alarm system and we're all set to go! They said they could have it all in within 5 days!!! This is really exciting!!!! :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc

Since when are you allowed to take your number with you? Must be something new. I know the website says you cannot keep your existing number. That's why I switched to Vonage, so I could keep my number.

The keeping your number thing just started. My friend just switched over and she seems to like it. The only complaint that she has is that Caller ID for Call Waiting incoming calls does not work yet. She said that they are supposed to be fixing that this month sometime. I'm gonna switch over once they get that part working.
