We have a family vacation planned in early May. This vacation starts with a 3 day cruise on the Disney Dream and then a week stay at BLT. My question is, should we book a one night stay at a DVC resort then head to the port or should we stay at a local hotel near Cape Canaveral. :stitch::stitch::stitch:

We have done this a couple of times and leave our car at the resort and take Disney transportation to the port and back. If there is several in your group it may be cheaper to drive to the port and back. Disney is $35 per person one way.

If your cruise in May 2, we'll be on the same cruise. I did book BLT for May 1 and will let Disney do the driving. We have 4 adults and the bus is $70 round trip each. when we get back we will be at BLT for 3 more nts.

If you drive add up gas and cost of room at port area. I checked and it was better for us to let Disney drive.:cool1:

OP, We were thinking the same thing but then decided not to spend the first night at Disney. I think 1 night would be a tease and then my kids wouldn't want to go on the cruise.

Our cruise is May 2nd. We can't wait, this will be are first cruise. I'm thinking SSR for the night before the cruise so we are not close to the parks and the kids will not get too excited.

I will have to do the calculation to see what make the most sense.

I have done both and must say I like staying on property much better the night before it just gets you that much more in the disney mood.
