Help - I need some suggestions/opinions on music during our private dining reception following our Escape wedding. For background we have the Whitehall Room from 3.30pm to 6.30pm for cake cutting, pre-reception & dinner. I know I get the violin for the cake cutting but I a trying to decide what to do after or subsitute to. There will be 15 of us. I am also planning to have Mickey and Mini.

I would like some "enteraining" music for my guests, nothing to formal or stiff. I want them to have fun and a good time.

- I don't care for Jimmy Buffet much neither does DF so that rules out the Key West guitar.

- I thought about an iPod and making a play list, but as there are only 15, will this just be a bit flat, it's not like we will be lots of mingling going on. :) Maybe add the tacky tourists?

- I have thought of the piano but my concern is the repertoire and will it be a bit loud in the Whitehall Room?

- For the Steel Band trio, does anyone know if it is the same band from Animal Kingdom? Also it doesn't really fit for my wedding (or the Whitehall Room for that matter) as I am not having a tropical wedding but they could be fun.

- Anybody have any other suggestions or experiences to share.

Or am I worrying to much and after Mickey and Minnie eveyone will be OK with the iPod and eating?

Thanks - Judi

I'm in a similar predicament... we'll have about 20 in a small garden room. We were thinking just the IPOD with fun music... then we are actually contemplating going cheesy with karaoke... it'd be fun and it'd be our 'demand' that everyone participate to at least ONE song :)

Good Luck!

I'm bumping this up because I'm now wondering the same thing ... we'd like to have some sort of entertainment for our guests during the pre-reception and reception, but I'm not sure what would be appropriate for our small (18 or so) group.

My dh is wishing that Disney offered a blues-style guitarist ... he'd absolutely adore that!

Can anyone share how they handled the music at their event? I'm wondering how it would work especially in the pre-reception when we wouldn't be there to get an iPod going ...

Hi,

As the OP I settled on the iPod. None of the Disney options really appealed to our tastes. We made play lists using Disney or Disney themed songs. I used the timing from my BEO to make the playlists the appropriate length, well actually just a little bit longer. DH and I had so much fun selecting the music for the play lists and talking about or favorite Disney movies or memories the Disney songs evoked from our childhoods or when his kids were small. I think we spent a week whistling a song from Robbin Hood everywhere we went. I have fond memories of putting this together with him. DH really got into doing this for the wedding, it was something he was comfortable doing - unlike picking floral options and table settings:rotfl:.

We made the following playlists:
- One for the pre-reception while DH and I had some photo's taken and the guest enjoyed a drink
- One for first dance that then lead into the cake cutting and toast (it had a couple of other songs afterwards)
- One for dinner music while we ate (the first song was "Be our Guest")
- An emergency playlist that could be put on if the time ran out on one of the other playlists

I had the teenage son of a friend of mine in charge of the iPod and instructed him on which playlist was for when. He got it going as soon as he reached the room. Our wedding coordinator also helped out at one point I think by switching to the dinner music as we all sat down.

The kids and some of the adults got up and did some dancing or playing around to the songs it was a lot of fun.

Judi, thanks for the detailed reply. That really helps. I'm definitely leaning towards the iPod, just because we can really customize it, and I guess I could have my teenage niece or her younger brother get it going for the pre-reception before we get there.

Thanks for the help -- I appreciate it! :thumbsup2

I'm not sure on the specifics for the Napa Room or if you can connect into a sound system in the room, if they have one. We rented the iPod player from Disney and it had a good sound and worked out really well. We provided the iPod already loaded with our play lists and fully charged.
