Waiting to close, but made first reservations today to stay at VWL in a two-bedroom from Sunday, Oct 28 until Sunday, Nov 4. My DH and I are going with our two children, girl, age 15, and boy, age 20, and two of their friends.

Because of the high point cost of the weekend, I am considering changing my reservation for the two-bedroom to Sunday through Thursday, and making reservations for either two studios on points, or waiting to see if I can get an AP discount and book two rooms for cash, or switch to a moderate for the last two nights, or whatever is available at a discount. I'm an RN and the S/D is now offering a nurses discount of $129/night. I don't know if the dates I need would be available at this time.

Anyway, have any of you done this in order to save points for another trip? Do you think we'd be "spoiled" by staying in the two-bedroom for the first five nights? I thought if we stayed at WL for cash I could request one of the rooms to have the queen bed and bunk beds, and the boys could sleep in the bunkbeds and the girls in the queen bed. Do you think that would be inappropriate considering the kids ages? There is no romantic interest involved with the friends that our children are bringing. Last July we stayed in a two-bedroom at OKW, and fell in love with it. There were eight of us then, DH and I and six kids between 14-21. We never tripped over each other, as there was plenty of room.

I realize alot of this is date dependent, as far as my changing my original reservations, and making my new reservation in time to get what I want.

Sorry this is so long, but what do you all think? Stick with the two-bedroom for all seven nights, or something else? <IMG SRC="/infopop/emoticons/icon_confused.gif" alt="confused">

As long as you are talking about changing, why not change to OKW for the weekend, since points are less there, and you would still have the room. Disney will transfer your luggage for you, so a move to another room at VWL or OKW woud be of little difference to you. Just a suggestion on how you might save points. We have an aversion to paying for rooms when we own DVC. That is why we joined DVC, so we wouldn't have to pay so much for rooms.

Whatever you decide, do it soon and you can guarentee that you will get the rooms and rates that you want. When faced with similar vacations, we have done the following:
Moved to another resort with the same size rooms (from OKW to BWV) - the bell staff moved us with no hastles. This particular vacation felt like two for the price of one.
Paid cash for the weekend in the same room. No packing up mid vacation - no hastles.
Moved to different resort and rooms. - from CB to OKW. Felt we moved up in scale and as such enjoyed the OKW rooms more than those at CB.
Good luch and have a great trip

I agree that the weekend point cost is high, but look at the cash cost of staying in a 2 bedroom - it's very high... When we joined, we planned on doing the Sunday through Thursday's only... but we've realized that it's more than worth it to use the points... after we initially purchased, we did a 100 point add on, so that we COULD stay weekends... IMHO I would not break up your vacation to save the points... it seems to defeat the purpose of vacationing!!

I look at the vacation as a cost for a week. I couldn't be bothered with changing rooms. I check in on Sunday and check out a week from the following Thursday or Friday. I stay in the Grand Villa, so the points are way high on the weekend, I have enough to stay through the weekend.

I really think that the key is too look at in one week blocks.

I agree with the above posts that suggested if you MUST save points you should go over to OKW. To move from 2 BDR to 2 rooms (or worse yet, a room at a moderate) would be too big a let down. I think you will be "spoiled".

I do think 2 20 year old boys and 2 15 year old girls sharing the same room per your 2nd scenario could be troublesome. There may be no romance, but at those ages it doesn't take romance to heat things up. It's also pretty difficult for the kids to retain their modesty. If I were the mom of your girl's friend (or even, come to think of it, your boy's buddy's mom) I would be concerned. BTW, I am a mom who has taken teens to BWV.

Actually, it may all be a moot point. Between Halloween, the 100th birthday celebration and the Epcot Food fest, it looks like last minute ressies are not any to easy to come by right now. It may be way less stress to leave things as you have planned them

I guess I'm in the minority here, but I would probably opt for either hoping for the AP discount where you're staying or paying cash at the Swan/ Dolphin (with the nurse's discount) or at a moderate. I somewhat agree with the fact that it would be a little hassle, but the points for a 2-bedroom on the weekend are so high that you could save them and practically "pay" for another 5-night vacation (Sun. - Thur.) with them. And, if you had purchased the annual pass to get the discount, you could already have your passes to use on that trip (as long as it was in the same year.) Just my opinion.
