Hi everyone, I just received word that my resale contract (100 pts @ OKW) just closed. Yeah!! I am officially a DVCer. Now here's my situation and I need some opinions. My contract came with 97banked pts that need to be used by Aug 31st of this year. I can't travel in May or June, so that leaves July or Aug to go to Orlando, which I know is HOT, HOT, HOT. We're thinking we will probably spend lots of time at the resort ("we" being myself, DH, DS 5 & 2) in the pool. So which resort is the best to just hang out? And how hard will it be to book with a 2 month window? Also, any thoughts on going to VB instead. If you had to spend July in Orlando, would you rather go to the parks or to the beach? Would love any input from experienced DVCers. Thanks.

I have traveled to WDW during both July and August, and yes, it is hot. However, there are ways to cope.

We will spend hot day hours poolside at our resorts, and frequently head into the parks for dinner and late night park touring. Since the parks are open later during summer, this is a plus. Once the sun goes down, then it is much easier to do the parks.

The other option is to head out bright and early before the hot noon sun is upon everyone, tour quickly and take a mid day break back at the resort. Again, pooltime or just cooling off in the a/c is enjoyable.

CarolAnnC described exactly what we plan to do for our July trip to WDW this year. In fact, there are a few threads right now of non-park activities to do while staying at WDW(they were circulating about a week or 2 ago)...maybe that could help you plan your daytime hours.

As for booking only 2 months out, I think your chances are better at the larger resorts (OKW & SSR). Good luck and enjoy your trip!

The main pool at OKW is very nice now. There is a sand castle slide. There are also lots of activites that may be scheduled throughout the day in the Club House for your children.

Well, if it is going to be HOT, HOT, HOT, then I would go to the BEACH, BEACH, BEACH. Your kids would love VB... check out this recent thread.

Yes, the OKW pool, slide and sand play area would be great, but I kind of agree....hot, hot, hot= beach, beach, beach. Not sure it will be too easy to get this late in the game though. Maybe try for Vero, and if it's full, do OKW, because you will likely get that easier. I also think later in August will be easier too.
