Opinions Please - WL vs Poly

Personally I'm torn between the two myself. I love both. They are both beautifully themed, breath taking views, great food, relaxing, quiet, I just love them both. Like everyone else has said the decor at Christmas is much better at the WL, but the monorail can't be beat. Either way you win. We've stayed club level at the Poly and WL, this will be our 3rd trip to the WL. It's my DH's favorite.

I'm so sorry for the mini hijack, but it looks like we might be heading to WL for Christmas. For those that have Christmastime experience, is it usually warm enough to swim? Is the WL pool even open? Sorry for the noob questions.

Quick answer - Totally depends on the weather. The pools are open but I was there 2 years ago and it was the coldest week in December on record - no one was touching the pools. Last year I wasn't there, but I kept checking the weather and it was mid- 70s the same week. I'm hoping this year we're at mid-70s again!

Although I've never had the pleasure of staying there, I would choose the Poly, it's THE original WDW resort.

Last year we were there during the last week of December and the pool was open and very busy that week during the day and at night.

We've stayed at both. For us, Poly wins hands down. We didn't care for the WL at all and but loved everything about the Poly. And we didn't pay extra for a theme park view and didn't regret it. We could go steps outside our room in Tokelau and watch Wishes. IMO, I'd rather use that extra money for other things during our trip.

We LOVE the Polynesian. The location, the restaurants, the beach, the theme. At this point, it is considered our family favorite. On the other hand, my family of 5 wants so bad to stay at the WL. I just can't justify the cost. Believe it or not, even Poly CL is more reasonable than what we would need to fit at the WL. Our options are 2 regular rooms, a 2 bedroom Villa, or a Deluxe Room CL. The Polynesian is an outstanding resort. But, the WL looks amazing to us too.

So, we decided to do a courtyard view at WL. The idea of having the better holiday decorations, etc. put WL over the top. I guess we'll do Poly when we are back in February!

I love both resorts but WL is amazing at Christmas so that's a great choice!

To the poster that asked it was hot last December when we were there. 80's-90's all week. My kids went swimming almost every day

If price isn't a factor, I would say Poly only because it is on the monorail for Epcot. We love WL and it is beautiful at Christmas. Fireplaces in lobby and the most unbelievable tree ever. We actually went back to our room one night at 10pm and the tree was up and fully decorated by 8am the next morning, talk about amazing!

I think you made a great choice. You will love the WL during the holidays :santa:.

We've stayed at both and while Ilove the size of the rooms at Poly I couldn't get past the cost of the rooms. While the rooms were large and there were many food options there were too many other things that I didn't like. The pool is tiny. If you go during a busy time good luck finding seating. I also didn't like having to run for my room in one of the longhouses during a thunderstorm. And at Christmas, the decorations are sadly lacking. Wilderness lodge has decent dining options, is all in one building (which is December is a wonderful thing) and has the second best decor during the holidays (AKL has the best IMHO). The pool is still to small.

As for the view, if I was staying at Poly and I could get a TPV for an extra 5 per night I might consider it but otherwise no. It was a nice thing to experience but since we were only in our room to see the fireworks one night it just doesn't seem to make sense. If you are going to be in your room every night then go for it otherwise, walk down to the beach and sit on the sand to watch.
