opinions please--mousekeeping

Giving a large tip is for something above and beyond. Giving a regular tip is part of the standard cost of service at restaurants and hotels. It's a standard part of their pay.
I'd have to disagree. Their standard pay *edit-for housekeeping* is their hourly wage. Tips are for anything above and beyond, i.e.--my waitress doesn't refill my water or even stop by my table to offer me a box, she will get a zero tip, just her hourly wage. I won't feel bad about it because it's not their standard. They weren't hired with a promise of tips.

THIS.

Thank you for voicing what I've always felt. I don't tip housekeeping/mousekeeping when we've stayed. We straighten our beds (this was prior to the GC offers to forego), put our used towels in one pile, and placed our garbage in the trash cans. On my main log-in, I was shredded by people who called me cheap, pointing out that it's a minimum wage job. I was taught tipping was for something above and beyond.

You shouldn't be shredded over that. It's not expected to tip housekeeping. As I said earlier it's nice when they get tipped. But it's not expected. The housekeepers make at the very least minimum wage and while yes I was taught to leave a tip you don't have to. It's not like working in a restaurant where they can get away with paying wait staff $1 per pay check and they have to make the rest in tips.

Actually waitstaff is. That's why DCP won't offer table service waitstaff as a role. Disney needs to guarantee the program kids are able to make enough to pay the rent on the DCP housing and such. They aren't paid minimum wage and expect to be tipped at the end of the night. And after being tipped they're expected to tip out other people in the restaurant like the bar tender and the bus boys.

Whatever you decide to tip is your business, but waitstaff does usually expect something. And if your service isn't up to snuff I would mention it to a manager before not leaving something for a server. But this is getting off topic.

OP you did just fine. There's no need to fret over it, you did nothing wrong.

People judge too harshly, don't they? I'm with you; I don't feel the tip is part of their pay.

You're wrong. It is part of their pay and they're expected to report tips on their income taxes. If they don't report being tipped and are audited, they can be fined. It's that expected & that much a part of their pay. You obviously don't know anything about this topic.

Sorry, I should've clarified: I know waitstaff is, but I was referring to housekeeping. And thank you for the suggestion on speaking with the manager, I will do that in the future.
Gotcha. That first comment was a little misleading so I felt the need to clarify. But yes you are 100% correct on housekeeping.

Side Note: There is no reason for people to be jumping on each other over tipping habits. Tipping is a personal thing and whatever people decide to tip is their business. So long as you have all the information and leave feeling comfortable with what you tipped that's really all that matters.
