Hi, I would like some opinions on park tickets.

We are going to WDW after Christmas through New Years. Since we arrive on Saturday (and probably won't go to a park that day), and leave the following Saturday, I was thinking I would get a 6 day ticket with Park Hopper. However, I could also get a 10-day PH with no expiration which is what I've done before. In the past, my rationale has been that prices will increase, so might as well have a few days at a cheaper ticket price.

But seeing as how they've only increased ticket prices by $3-4 per day (I think I have that right), is it worth it to spend that extra money now?

What do you do? Do you buy tickets for only the days you're going, or do you buy the 10 day tickets with no expiration and use any leftover days on other trips?

Thanks for the input!

DW & I plus my parents buy 10 day no expiration park hoppers as needed.

My parents usually go twice a year (although 2009 is looking like 4 trips totaling 13 nights!) for three or so nights each but only 1 or 2 days in the parks per trip.

DW & I plan for 1 six night trip per calendar year and generally do 3 full days in the parks per trip. (I like rope drop to park close; she gives up and heads back to the room well before I do!) We do an EPCOT DiveQuest on another day so that gets us into Epcot afterwords (unofficially) for a total of 3.5 park days. We spend the rest of the trip at the resorts and Downtown Disney...

Hi, I would like some opinions on park tickets.

.......

In the past, my rationale has been that prices will increase, so might as well have a few days at a cheaper ticket price.

This will work as long as those left over tickets will cover the entire next trip.

If you have to buy a few more days then the savings are gone because you have to start over.

We used to do the 10-day non-expiry tickets .... however, I believe the price for the non-expiry option has increased by quite a bit.

Just crunch the numbers based on the days you will be using and see what makes sense to you.

What works for one person, does not always make sense for another because of varied circumstances/preferences.

If you have to buy a few more days then the savings are gone because you have to start over.

I have to disagree- as long as you buy a 10 day no expiration the next time you need more days you should still see a per-day savings.

It's like DVC, you are pre-paying for tickets at today's prices for future use. Just not on as large a scale as 50 years of accommodations! :rotfl:

Thanks for the comments, I appreciate it!

I think I will probably end up doing the 6 day park hopper ticket. I do understand the rationale of doing the 10-day no expiration but at this point, I would rather save the $200 on the ticket and just buy another one when we go again.

But I could change my mind, too, we still have 9 months until we go. :lmao:

the non expiration feature went up quite a bit this last year. I bought my tickets, ten day no expiration with park hopper, right before the price increase in August. I checked back and I saved almost 10% by buying it before the increase. Most of the was because of the increase in the non expiration option.

And do check out mosesavers email updates. I have save about $50 on four tickets the last couple of times I bought there. Not a lot of money but no real effort either.

We've always bought the 10-day Non-expiring tickets. But we're doing the 6 day Park hopper this time also. Just wanted to save the extra expense at this time. We use the mousesavers discount also. Every dollar counts these days.

I have to disagree- as long as you buy a 10 day no expiration the next time you need more days you should still see a per-day savings.otfl:
The break even with separate expiring tickets comes roughly when the number of vacations completed is twice the number of 10 day non-expiring tickets purchased.

Currently a 10 day non-expiring with hopping is about $52. per day including the tax.

I see the no expiration option as letting Disney holding my money, and I don't get interest on it. The savings difference in park admission may indeed be more than the interest gained over that period of time, but I get to use my money now vs letting Disney use it.

But, I do think having a Park Hopper is essential.

I just buy the number of days I need with PH option.

I agree with the last poster. I was thinking about it again last night, and the difference between a 6 day PH and a 10 day no expiration PH is like $200. I can see buying the more days with no expiration if I wasn't probably going back in the next few years and thought the rates would increase dramatically. However, I (hopefully!!! :thumbsup2 ) can continue to go once a year / year and a half and so spending that extra money doesn't seem that worth it to me right now. Now, if park tickets were going up more than $4-5 each year I probably would, but at that rate of increase, I think I am going to stick with my 6 day ticket.
