I am planning ahead (of course, thanks DVC) and next year my husband and I plan to take my oldest daughter (who will be living in FL) and my grandson, who will be 2 1/2 Her husband is a Marine and will be training and unable to join us. We plan on going in either March (2nd week, my spring break) or early June.
Our home is SSR but I would much rather get a studio on the monorail. Both of my dates are magic season and I have them for Poly, BLT or VGF. I have had no problems booking BLT lake view or Poly 7 months out, so I'm not concerned about getting them. I doubt I could get VGF.
I'd just like some opinions on whether Poly or BLT would be better with a 2 1/2 year old. She will be driving down and will have a stroller. The baby won't be tall enough for much yet and she might be pregnant again, so the emphasis will be atmosphere and characters, at least for them (can't say grandpa and grandma won't try to get a ride or two in). Most of the time will be MK and Epcot, with probably a trip to see Toy Story Land and maybe part of a day at AK to take him on the safari.
It's been forever since I had a 2 year old at WDW (18 years in fact, our first trip) and the DVC resorts at MK did not exist, so I'd appreciate feedback from those who have had toddlers at BLT or Poly.

So it will be 3 adults and 1 child, all the studios will be fine space wise. BLT may be a little tight, but it's the easiest to get to MK, just a short walk and no need to fold up the stroller and hop on a bus/monorail. Plenty of dining option there as well. You do NOT have to walk out side to get to dining or shopping, like at the Poly or VGF. Poly has the largest studios of the 3 on the monorail, and it's very easy to get to EPCOT via the monorail, just a short walk to the TTC to the EPCOT line.

I'd recommend the Poly over BLT for the extra space and for the more convenient transportation options to both EPCOT & the MK. While you can't walk to the MK from Poly, it's just a short walk to the TTC, where you could opt for either the ferry or the monorail to the MK. Neither requires a stroller to be folded up to ride. From the TTC you can also catch the monorail to EPCOT. From BLT, you would have to transfer to the EPCOT monorail at the TTC and when you return, transfer to the resort monorail which will stop at the Poly, VGF & MK before arriving at the CR. Note that to get to the monorail from BLT you need to get to the 4th floor, take the walkway and then an elevator to get to the monorail loading platform.

A Plus at the Poly is two sinks to get ready - only one has a toilet. One "bathroom" has a shower & sink plus lots of extra space and the other a tub/shower combo with toilet and sink. The toddler may also love the pull down murphy bed, which seems ideal for children.

Sounds like a wonderful trip. Too bad Dad can't come. We are all grateful to him and the whole family for their service to our country.

pick up a small contact at a monorail resort/ It seems like you now have a reason.

I’d say poly. BLT studios are TINY. Way too much wasted space in the kitchenette. Poly has 2 showers/sink areas. It gets my vote every time. We did BLT for one night only on arrival day. I’m so glad I didn’t book it the entire time.

Depends what you're prioritizing. Poly will be significantly more points than BLT (depending on views obviously. Even a standard view at Poly is more than a lake view at BLT though), but the studio will also be much larger. BLT gives you the benefit of walking to MK, which we absolutely love with a stroller. Between the walk and the monorail, not having to fold that stroller up during naps is huge for us. The easy walk across to CR for dining, shopping and arcade is also a big plus for those potential rainy days or just quiet resort days. While we certainly do enjoy how much larger the rooms are at Poly, we still find ourselves preferring BLT most of the time.

It's a tough call. On the one hand, you have the close proximity to MK at BLT and the nice dining/shopping options without having to get outside. On the other hand, Poly does have a larger studio, easy access to the monorail and TTC. One thing hinted at in your original post but not answered directly in any suggestions since is the theming. I enjoy BLT a great deal, but Poly has more of that Disney resort feeling overall. It's a bit more relaxing and transports you to a different world a bit more than BLT which comes off as what it is--a modernized, stylized view of Disney. Nothing wrong with that but perhaps not exactly what you will be looking for on this trip.

I would definitely say the POLY. The BLT studios are TINY {like REALLY REALLY TINY} and the Poly isnt that far away from things....and their studios are very spacious

Well just heard that my son-in-law may be joining us for a day or two. So it will either by Poly or a 1BR at BLT, I guess, I may even borrow some to get a 2BR. While I am happy he thinks he can come (his text even said "for a day or two, then he can spend time with Grandma and Papa") it throws my plans into a big question mark. Knowing the military it might not even work out. Maybe by 7 months out I will have more details. Glad I'll be at the Poly next week to relax!

Agree on all of the above, including your son in law's service!

My husband says "hush your mouth!" ;)
It is often easier to ask forgiveness than permission. Just sayin'.... ;)

:) That would be nice; hopefully it all works out with a 1BR at BLT and some good family time. That would be a nice "problem" to have.

Figured out I'm already borrowing, LOL, so the 1BR lake view at BLT looks better. I have booked one of those before for 4 nights in March in 2012 and 3 nights in October in 2014, so I'm hopeful the 7 month mark won't be a problem.

It shouldn't be - there are a lot of them!

You should be fine at the month mark. We've never had a problem getting a BLT LV 1 bedroom at that time.
