I'm planning a trip and wondering about staying at Port Orleans Riverside. I have three children so my resort options are limited since only a few resorts can accomodate 5 in a room. I will be traveling with my wife and three small children. Any advice about Riverside or other resorts that can accomodate 5 would be appreciated, thanks.

We too are a party of 5. We just returned from POR and were impressed with the resort. Our DD is still only 2 so we were considered a party of 4 therefore we didn't request the trundle bed. We stayed in AB 14 and it was a great location but the resort was so pretty we wouldn't have minded a longer walk. Even though we didn't request it, a trundle bed was in the room. The trundle bed was small. Plenty big enough for our kids who are only 5, 4 & 2 but too small for an adult or large teen. We let our kids take turns sleeping on it each night. Whoever slept on it that night got to answer the wake up call from Mickey.

There is so much to do at POR that the kids will enjoy. The fishing hole, which we didn't get to do, looks like fun. They have the carriage rides there and the bus to DD disney. The arcade was pretty large and free entertainment Thursday-Saturday at the River roost. The kids also loved the pool and playground area.

As far as other places for a family of 5 to stay we will be looking into that too when DD turns 3. We have stayed at the Poly which sleeps 5 but is also so much more $ than POR. We are thinking of staying in a Wilderness cabin in the spring. They are reasonable with the AP rates. They can sleep 6. There is also the option of getting 2 connecting rooms but that depends on the ages of your kids and the size of your wallet.

I would suggest POR because it is so beautiful and is the best option for the price, IMO.

If you have any other questions about POR, I'd be glad to try and help.

Thank you, we looked into the Polynesian but finances are a concern and I think it's just a little too pricey for a room that you barely spend any time in.

My kids are 4, 6 and 8 so the trundle bed would be ok. I don't feel we'll need two rooms just yet or at least I hope so, once they're teens that'll be a different story.

Thanks again

We loved our stay at POR. The room was bigger than I thought it would be from some of the talk Ive heard. My kids are 14, 11, and 5, and of course dh and I. We were all very comfortable in the room, and my 14 year old used the trundle the most. I only wished we had been able to enjoy the hotel more than we did. We ran out of time so quickly, even w/a 7 night stay.

I am a big fan of POR. I usually stay over at Magnolia Bend (The Mansions). Alligator Bayou has the trundle beds. I hear alot of great things about it too. I really enjoy this property, its beautifully landscaped. The pool area is really nice..My son loves it. There are several quiet pools (no lifeguards) which are very nice as well. My son tried some fishing at the fishing hole, but I think the fish are very smart there, if you know what I mean. He enoyed it even though he caught no fish..Its a catch and toss back policy. We love to rent the bikes and go all over the property and into the FQ(I not sure if they are still doing reno there at this time). We have taken the boat to FQ and to DTD. The ride is very pleasant. The food court is very good and I enjoyed dinner at Boatwrights on several occasions when I didnt venture off the property.

Make sure you catch the piano man in the lounge at night,,he is so much fun and hilarious. He will have your whole family singing along.

Have a great time and lots of Magical Moments.

We, too, loved this resort!! Just back on 8/7. It is our (me, DH, DS 14 & DS 12) favorite resort so far! The room was a nice size with plenty of storage space, the food court was really good (and large--didn't seem crowded even at peak hours), the lounge with Bob the piano player looked like a lot of fun (we didn't stop to rest but we did enjoy a few of his songs while passing by). What most impressed us was how beautiful POR is! The landscaping, the bridges, the river views, the boat ride to DTD all made this resort seem like a deluxe for a moderate price. Enjoy!! Oh, BTW, the phone has a speaker button so if you hit that each morning, everyone gets to hear the Mickey wake up call. (I, however, was THE most excited one each morning! ) :bounce:

We are also a family of 5. We stayed at the POR last Thanksgiving. Our daughters are 14, 11 and 8. The 11 year old and the 8 year old took turns on the trundle bed. They both loved it.

It's a beautiful resort and the boat ride to DTD is really nice. Last year was a little chilly though at night. The food court has a nice selection and there is a sit down resturant.

We also liked the pool. The girls really enjoyed the slide.

I'm looking forward to staying there in November, so am really interested in everything that has been said. I called the resort to see if they have VCR's (they don't) or coffee pots (a few are available from housekeeping on request.) I've heard the coffee is truly horrible, so the coffee is an issue for me.
