OPINIONS on Penfed online credit Union??

looks to be mostly military but one can join and they have some good/great rates for loans available...thinking ahead here
Any bad or good points if you've taken a loan online thru them?
Looks to be online or or phone situation, tho in our state they have some ATM's, did not get that far yet

My brother-in-law uses them on one of his car loans. He got a good rate, but service is horrible. We asked him about it when we were going to finance a car & he told us:

"Using PenFed credit union is the equivalent of going to college through University of Phoenix."

Needless to say, we opted to go with a brick & mortar bank. We got a better rate, too.

We have our mortgage through them and do banking with them as well. We have had no problems with them. Yes, the service is not the same as at a bank, but they are the best credit union we've belogned to, and we've been members at quite a few. YMMV because we are in Northern Virginia and actually have branches we can go to.

They have an excellent (for these days) rewards program for their credit cards and offer good APRs, too.

But, they are conservative when you app for a new card. They don't like seeing recent inquiries/new accounts or high utilization. Otherwise, they're an excellent credit union.

We've had several car loans through them and have never had any issues. I would not hesitate to use their services again!

I'm not military but joined for the auto loan rates. I think thy are great. I have had to call a couple of times with questions and always got someone on the phone quickly and never had customer service problems. I would absolutely use them again. I like the extended hours they are available on the phone, if I need to call. But I mostly do things online and automatically. I would give them a 10 out of 10.
