Hi There me again:rolleyes:

Right I've now found a villa on the Lindfields estate. Picadilly Circle, I take it thats the street name!?!

Any one stayed there before? Whats it like?

Can you walk to the Formosa shoppping center from there or is it too far?

I think I've got a fairly good deal £1100 for 2 weeks including pool heat for a 4 bedroomed villa, South facing extra large pool.

Any opinions.

Thanks

Jayne

hi Jayne, I haven't stayed there myself, but I have a couple of friends that stay there every year and love the area. It's certainly in a convenient area and a short trip to WDW. I think it might be a little impractical to walk to the shops/restaurants, not because it's a long way, because there aren't a lot of pavements (sidewalks to our American friends :) ) to walk on.

I've just recieved booking conditions and to book I have to sent a cheque to their UK address and they send the front door keys prior to the holiday, through the post. Is this normal?

Obviously it will be easier when we get there that we won't have to mess about picking keys up but it seems a bit strange not to have contact with someone in the US.

What do you think?

It's not unheard of for the owners to post the keys to you in the UK, although more frequently these days you receive the code for a locked box/safe that is outside the house. I would ask what the proceedure is if you have any problems etc that need dealing with. Does the owner have a management company and what are the contact details.

Lindfields is a great area, easy to drive to Disney, especially the back entrance, and all the amenities although Formosa Gardens shopping Center is a good 2 miles away so walking would probably not be an option. NOBODY walks in Orlando but if you really wanted to then there are 2 Publix supermarkets within a mile, taking your life in your hands on the 192 to reach either !!

I suspect that your owner is sending you the keys to save you the inconvenience of finding their management companies offices on your arrival in Florida. I know ours are miles away and not easy to find, especially after a long flight! The norm is that there will be a folder or poster in the villa giving you the management company details and emergency contact numbers but if you want to be sure, just email the owner and they should be able to give you the information before you go.

Don't forget to send back the keys when you get home though, your security deposit will probably depend on it.

Have a fantastic holiday.

I have had keys posted to me. It's much more convenient. Just make sure you know how to operate the intruder alarm and its location.

Some of the houses on Lindfields are very old. Having said that, you can probably tell from the photos whether that's true of the one you're looking at. Whenever I'm considering a villa more than a couple of years old, I ask how many years ago the photos were taken because, of course, owners are only ever going to publish photos of the house when it was new, or recently refurbished.

Lindfields is in a good spot. It's an enormous development. It would probably be fairly easy to find out whereabouts Picadilly Circle is, but I wouldn't have said any part of it is within very easy walking distance of FG Shopping Center, or at least not the part with the supermarket. It's probably possible, but not something you'd want to do too often.

Here is a map showing the location of Picadilly Circle (bottom left). You could walk along the Funie Steed Road past Sunset Lakes and Emerald Island (it used to be a dirt track between these two developments - not sure if it's been made up yet), left onto Formosa Gardens Boulevard, past the entrance to Splendid China and on to the FG shopping centre. Quite a trek, though - do it in the car first.

Lindfields is 50/50 rentals and residential, btw.

Thanks for the replys

You've eased my worries.

BUT not sure I like the thought of lindfields being 'huge', but I guess most of the estates are over there!

Are there any shops within walking distance or would you need the car. Think I'll give walking to formosa garden one a miss:rolleyes:

Anyone guess that I feel as if we may need to escape for a while:teeth: from our teenage sons.

What about other walks near by or is it all streets? Indian creek had walking paths and routes through wooded areas. I know its sad but we live in the country here and do enjoy going out for walks but I dont fancy walking the 192!!

Thanks for your help everyone

Jayne

Yes Deb the 'dirt track' between Sunset Lakes and Emerald Isle is now a fully fledged paved road. But let's keep it to ourselves or everyone and his dog will be using it as a shortcut :hyper2: :moped:

LOL, Sue!

Jayne,

It's a while since I've driven around Lindfields, but from memory it's a sprawling, open estate (in a way quite like housing estates here) rather than a small community. Last May we stayed at Cumbrian Lakes which was a bit of a departure for us as it's east of Disney on the 192. It was a little bit further out than the communities around Splendid China, but not as much as I was expecting. We used the Osceola Parkway for getting in and out of Disney (50c and dead quiet), barely needing to touch the 192 (you just cross it at Poinciana Boulevard). It is a lovely gated community with the wooded trails you're looking for. It isn't within walking distance of any supermarkets, but there is a nice new Publix right where Poinciana Blvd hits the 192.

**Edited to say that the toll for the Osceola parkway is 50c, not $50!

How old? Lindfields is on our list for possible villa rental. are some parts newer than others.

Ken

Yes, I'm pretty sure they are, Ken. Lindfields was the original rental community and as I've said before, it's pretty huge, so it's inevitable that some parts will be older than others. A few years ago, we were looking at renting a brand new one there. I think it was right up on the 192 next to the Styles office (not sure if that's still there - ?). They were unusual villas with the pool within the structure.

We just got back from a stay in June at Lindfields. All the comments listed are correct. We enjoyed our villa (4 bed, 2 bath with a nice screened in pool).

Our home backed up to a cul-de-sac. Some home pools backed up onto the street. Check that out.

We got a great weekly rate, the neighborhood was quiet with no problems. Lindfields is a little older...but nice. We would stay there again.

As mentioned there are 2 Publix supermarkets nearby (don't go to SuperWal Mart on 192 E), and a shortcut to Disney on Sherbeth Road (e.g. Mile Mark 5). And, you have everything you would want for food, shopping on 192.

For us, we got to the parks early and went back to the villa in the afternoon to swim and nap. Then we went back for the evening. No problem going or coming if you take shortcuts.

We enjoyed Lindfields and the home.

Doug
