I am thinking of renting a vacation villa at Highlands Golf Reserve in ealry October. I'm wondering if anyone has stayed there and what the opinions are of this place.

Highlands Reserve is approx 7 mins down US 27 from US 192 junction. From there it will take anywhere from 15 to 40 mins to get to WDW depending on traffic conditions. Highlands Reserve homes are built on a golf course and are generally very nice homes. You need to be particularly careful who you rent from as there are two managament companies who operate from there that leave something to be desired. Unfortunately I can't name them.

If you are renting directly from the owner make sure you know who the MC is. It is vital in case you need something ! If you play golf, then it is a decent course with excellent greens. The approaches are very open so it is good for beginners.

In all, a good development but just too far from WDW IMO. Hopefully there are a couple of owners reading this and they can contribute their opinions.

Highlands Reserve is not too far away from Disney. It is a totally relaxing community offering first class villas in a fabulous golf setting. It has never taken us more than 15 mins to get to Disney and that is going via the I4 or the 192. A brand new Publix is currently being built next door which will be a great asset for anyone staying there.

Florida Leisure you keep saying the homes on HWY27 are too far away but this is just not true and if it took you 40 minutes to get to Disney you must have seriously got lost!!

Bad MC's surely don't confine themselves to Highlands Reserve so why mention this to guests? This is just not helpful.

On most of your threads you obviously want people to stay on the 192, which is probably where most of your rental homes are.

Hi Victoria

I am an owner on Highlands Reserve and my villa is one of the ones you are interested in. (I received an email from you this morning)

I do know the MCs in question and I can assure you that I do not use either. I am happy to pass on details of my MC to you.

Highlands Reserve is ONLY 15 minutes from Disney and is an ideal location.

Although I do not have ahome on Highlands Reserve, I would not hesitate to recommend it to anyone wishing to stay there. It's not too far from Disney and as Kerry says the homes are beautiful and on a lovely community. As for bad MC's I was with the biggest one going and they were based on the 192.

I'll repeat what I posted on another thread.

The journey to Disney can be very easy and yes, 15 mins can be done but there can be traffic problems when you get onto US 192 approaching Disney. I've personally sat in lines that have been 40 mins long (before I knew better!) although I would say that 25 mins was the norm last Summer. Over Easter the traffic from Disney entrance went back along US 192 to almost the Lindfields Blvd! Now if you know the way to avoid this you may still do Disney in 20 mins but most people reading this don't and won't be prepared to drive on dirt roads. The other way to go is down US27 and join I4. You will then be looking at 20 mins if traffic conditions are good - usually they are !

As far as MC's are concerned, they can operate from anywhere. It just happens there are two of them that you should avoid IMO....I'm pleased to read that Briggsy doesn't have them so you will be fine.

We stayed in Highlands Reserve in December 2002 and are booked again in November 2003. We rented from the owner and had no problems. It wasn't a hassle at all to get to and from the parks. It's not like staying on site but it's a great alternative. We travel with other families and this is a great way to go. Everyone is more than comfortable, and everyone saves money. If you would like to PM me I would give you the website address.

Hello...The rental home business has undergone some changes in the last few years with the addition of the new developements around Formosa Gardens. This is now "closest to Disney" and has made the 15 to 20 minute trip from out on 27 seem like a lot longer. Now these homes have become much farther out compared to the Emerald Island, Oak Harbor, and the Windsor Palms proerties. Lindfields is now "farther out" than most property off Formosa Garden's Boulevard. If you are out on 27 and it is a very busy time, you will speed in on 27 and 192 and hit the traffic at Lindfield's. If you are coming out of Lindfield's you will hit the same traffic. If you know the Black Lake to Sherberth Rd. or Sherberth Rd. alone shortcut you can get to Disney via Animal Kingdom whether you are from hwy 27 or Lindfield's or Formosa Gardens Blvd. The drive in from 27 on 192 is farther than it looks on the maps but is not a bad drive at all.
The constant battle for "close to Disney" continues. Most hwy 27 homes are 20 to 25 minutes plus traffic jams. Emerald Island is 6 minutes to AK parking lot via Sherberth Rd. I have timed both. In the end it is all Disney World and all lots of fun....Ted

Sorry this is utter nonsense. It has never taken us anymore than 15 minutes to get to Disney without traffic jams.

I quite agree Kerry my home is 1.5 miles from the junction of the 192 -noway does it take 20 minutes plus to reach WDW.

Kerry,
When do you come out here ?

I live it, work it, breathe it and sleep it everyday. It's exactly as Tednvon says it is. There is absolutely nothing wrong with being 15-20 mins from Disney but you have to accept that other communities are closer and those owners / MC's will push what they see as being their advantage.

Jannyans,
I'm assuming you are on Clearcreek if you are 1.5 miles from 192. It takes me 4 - 5 mins from Lindfields to get there. From Lindfields you would be lucky to get to Disney in 10 mins. If traffic is bad then it can be a lot longer. The addition of more and more homes on US 27 is leading to these traffic problems and it will get worse before it gets better. One day you will have a great advantage if Disney ever opens a road directly to US 27. It is being talked about and it's also being talked about Disney developing their own vacation homes in the area that would lead to 27. If that ever happens you will be 5 mins from Disney !!

Tednvon...how come it takes you 6 mins to AK ? Should be quicker than that if you cut down the dirt road by Westgate, turn left and cross over US 192. I've done it in 4 mins from Sunset Lakes before now !! Having said that, I may have been speeding ;)

Sadly not as often as I would like but enough to know how long it takes to get to Disney.

Of course I know that there are communities nearer to Disney and I have no problem accepting this. And yes it is an advantage to be a close as possible, but please let keep the travelling times in perspective and not put people off. So perhaps we will have to agree to disagree.

Perhaps there are other guests who have stayed at any of the HWY 27 communities who would like to say what their travelling times were.

Does it really matter how long it takes to get to Disney 10, 15 or 20 minutes who cares when you are on holidays? It all adds to the excitement. Personnally I would not care how long it took to get there if I was staying in a comfortable well maintained villa.

I have stayed in my villa on Highlands Reserve several times over the last few years mainly during school holidays, Easter and Christmas and it has never taken us more that 15 minutes to reach Disney.

Julie

We stayed in a BEAUTIFUL villa in Highland Reserves last June. We did not find the commute to be a problem at all and it was so not a problem that we never looked at how long it took us! 15 min. is about right. HR is very quiet and peaceful. Our 2800 sq. ft villa overlooked the fairway and it was a totally relaxing trip. Our boys keep asking when we are going back to our "new house" with the swimming pool. Very well maintained and we went through a MC that was helpful and great.
