Opinions on fanny packs.....

I like waist packs. Pop uses one for his wallet (worried about falling out of his pocket). I like them because they leave my hands free for rides and shopping. I have a rather small one that I've had 20+ years. Got it at WDW. It was a child's size but fortunately at its largest, it still fits. I wear it to Universal and security teases me about it. I really don't care what other people think; it works for me as does Pop's for him. In the end, that's all that matters- what works for you. Have a great vacation!

I'm not a fanny pack fan, however, I saw some really cute ones on Etsy.

my two teen daughters wanted them this year so I ordered these. I bought 3 but son didn't want [he uses his pockets in cargo shorts. so I used it. It's great. I was using a spibelt which you can't see at all but only holds my phone...this i can put a granola bar and chapstick in has inside and outside pocket too for room key, headphones, etc....but spibelt is adequate if you don't want people to see it... I keep a $20 bill; credit card and id in my phone case and then put it in there.

fannypack only $9 I bought all 3 in grey

hmmm...like the idea of the Spibelt. Would it be able to be worn under a shirt and therefore skip the bag line? I like the bagless idea, but don't trust my shorts pockets for my phone or small wallet. None of my shorts pockets will work...

I have this one friend who always brings a fanny pack to a theme park. Not sure if he's just practical, too cool to care, or thinks he's gonna create a new trend (like when he tried to bring back Member's Only jackets in college)... or a combination of all.

But for me, I don't have the audacity or confidence to pull it off, nor the poor taste to even try... depending on who you ask. I'm a string sackpack man myself. Those lightweight minimalist athletic bags tell the ladies (or the gents) that you are a person of style and class.

My teen tells me that fanny packs and members only jackets are back in style now, let your friend know he was just ahead of his time. Last year my teen took the really old fanny pack that I had bought in the 80s to wear at WDW. I used to wear fanny packs at WDW and liked them but then switched to crossbody bags because I like having a bunch of different pockets to separate my items.

I have been considering trying out a waist pack at my next Disney trip. I don't carry enough to warrant a backpack and don't like when I get a sweaty back. I have used a cross body but don't always love it crossing across the front of my shirt and can cause neck strain. I totally used to make fun of my mom for using one but now that I'm an adult I see the practicality. ;)

My college kids tell me fanny packs are back. My daughter bought one for our trip last May and loved having it. We travel light- it was nice to ditch the backpack.

My only opinion is that we need to call them waist packs so we don't make the British and Australians faint. (That f word refers to the part of the body that midwives deal with)

I know what it means to them but honestly I hate saying "waist pack" so I'm gonna keep calling them fanny packs lol.

I bought a "waist" pack a few years ago and I think it's great. I bought it at ebags and it has space for 2 waterbottles. It can get heavy if loaded with 2 water bottles, but it's perfect for rides - just swing around to the front and off you go. Crossbody's are annoying across my neck and crossing over my chest. I found backpacks are always being put on or taken off and then look for somewhere safe to store it. It's all about function and comfort for me when trudging around Disney.

I'm a vb fan. I love the disney designs. Have you tried the hipster? I've used that in 2 trips and loved it. I also have a triple-zip hipster that's a tad bigger at home, but it doesn't have a Mickey print and I'm a sucker for my Mickey one in WDW. This year I will try the vb mailbag cross body style (Mickey print!) but will bring my regular hipster just in case.

I do see the appeal of the fanny/waist pack though. Perhaps vb should make one, with a disney design! And maybe I could get a cut of the profits because THAT is a brilliant idea ;)

Yes I have the hipster in 2 Disney prints.
I also have the little hipster.
I've used both at the parks.
AS I said the one is bigger than I need and the other is a tad small for my liking.
I wish the double zip hipster was made slightly differntly and that would probably be much perfect bag.
And YES I totally agree VB should get in the fanny pack market!

I wouldn't wear one, but that's only because I can't stand having things around my waist. If it's what works for you, go for it!

Try a different crossbody. There are many types with differing straps and sizes and pockets etc. I personally am a big fan of Dooney. Not too big. Not too wide at the bottom, weather proof, zip shut and just enough room for essentials.

I have a Disney Dooney & Burke. I'm n ot a fan of it for the parks.
The strap hurts and it does not fit enough.

Personally, I don't really care what anybody thinks about what park bag I choose to use. I have used a waist pack in the past when we still had a stroller. It worked great for my phone and ID, cash, etc... Now that we have no stroller, I need a slightly larger bag so I use a small backpack so that I have room for our ponchos.

Use whatever you are most comfortable with because after many hours in the parks, comfort will be the most important thing.

I have the most amazing neon dinosaur print fanny pack and I love it! It's so, so convenient and who doesn't love dinosaur print?? When I take it to the parks I can fit all this: 2 cell phones, portable charger w/ cable, 2 ponchos, small sunscreen, chapstick, gum, wallet, bandaids, and probably a few other things I'm forgetting. It's all my essentials and I don't have to worry about taking my bag off an digging through it for something. I also don't have to worry about storing a large bag or bumping into people with it while watching parades or something.

If you are looking for convenience, there is no shame in rocking a fanny pack. It's all about what YOU want and what YOU need!

I use this one. I have used it for about 5 years two trips a year for 8-10 days at a time. The reason this particular one works so well, is it has a flat adjustable sliding shoulder pad. And it holds plenty for me without being bulky.

We just went to the mall this past weekend and saw several stores that sell hip junior-type clothing with mannequins in the windows wearing waist packs. Maybe they're coming back???

I don't wear one to Disney (I use a small Vera Bradley backpack) but I have worn one to Universal because they are a lot stricter about bags on rides there and you can wear a waist pack on most rides. I didn't feel as silly there because a lot more people at Universal were wearing them too.

This is what I was going to say. VB is not the only maker of cross body bags out there, there are so many sizes and styles to choose from out there.

I use a LeSportsac hobo as my cross body bag. In a Disney print of course :)
It is a good size, not huge, but the material is light and the strap is wide so its comfortable.

I usually use a spibelt in the parks, too, for mostly the same items - ID, credit card, health insurance card, $20, annual pass, and TiW card. Sometimes my phone, if I don't have a pocket to put it in.

hmmm...like the idea of the Spibelt. Would it be able to be worn under a shirt and therefore skip the bag line? I like the bagless idea, but don't trust my shorts pockets for my phone or small wallet. None of my shorts pockets will work...

I always skip the bag check line with my spibelt. It isn't visible or bulky under my shirt, and I honestly don't see the difference between that and a wallet - this wallet is just on a belt instead of in my pocket. I did go through the bag line once because my DD (who's 7) asked why I wasn't getting my "fanny pack" checked. The security guard laughed at me and waved me through - so now I just go straight to the "no bag" line.

I'm planning on wearing my running Fitbelt for Disney and my Lululemon fannypack for Universal (since we'll have to use a locker regardless of the size of my pack, might as well carry a bit more). I think I'm going to be thrilled to be going handsfree and bagcheck line-free (for Disney), but if I decide I want to carry more, I'm packing a backpack as well just in case.

Wear what makes you happy and comfortable. I've tried crossbody backpacks, regular backpacks and crossbody purses on our various travels through Disney and Europe, and all have their upsides and downsides. What I do find is that the bigger the bag I carry, the more stuff my husband wants me to carry for him in it, so this time I'm carrying nothing! :)

Good Morning America just did a story on fanny packs yesterday. Said they are back & that several of the major fashion houses had them in the fashion week shows. DH & I wear prescription sunglasses. I use a cross body bag to carry those in the park, plus my phone, TIW card & a chapstick. It does get annoying on my neck & shoulders & it looks horrible across my chest. Not sure I'm ready to go back to the 90s with the fanny pack. We are about 5 weeks out from our next trip. Maybe I'll look around for a cheap one just in case I want to try it out.
