I'm still thinking about upgrading from a preferred room at an All Star Resort for Coronado Springs in early March.

My main pluses I see at Coronado are larger beds, bigger rooms, and better bus transportation times. This is appealing to me as I'm trying to make my boyfriend's first time a magical trip. And shatter his preconceived notion that Disney is just for kids.

All that said, the price is my only sticking point. I'm trying to be somewhat frugal. The difference is only about 400 for the bump up to Coronado Springs. Is it worth it?

Thanks!

I think that really depends on what you're planning. In my opinion the All-Star resorts appeal more to kids than adults, which might not shatter his preconceived notions. However, with that $400 you could have a really nice dinner at one of the signature restaurants. Or a few nice dinners across property. Other options include a spa treatment or a round of golf (if that's something your boyfriend might be interested in).

I personally really enjoy spending time at the resorts and often need at least one day to rest, relax, and recharge at the resort. So I would find good value in spending that money on the hotel. A good bed is well worth it.

So to start, I personally love the Coronado theme. The food court was much nicer than most on property and they also offer the Rix nightclub on property. ( Not really a true city type nightclub but still had music and booze ). The rooms were updated when I had stayed so there was a newness to the rooms.

I would recommend looking at the construction though and see how that may effect your trip. It's a pretty big project from what I understand.

If you're looking to upgrade from a value resort to one of the mods, I'd consider POFQ - it has the old New Orleans feel and is a bit more intimate than the other mods.

If you are trying to show your boyfriend the more adult side of Disney, I think CSR is a great choice. My young adult kids and i stayed at ASMovies one night then moved to CSR for 5 days.. I realize that 1 night isn't a fair trial against 5 nights but here are my thoughts. CSR will have a more adult feel in the theme of the resort. There are restaurants and a lounge along with the food court so there are better options for meals. The main pool is more interesting and the quiet pools are really nice. The rooms are larger and the queen beds are far more comfortable. CSR is getting refurbished but there is also construction. We generally stay at the BC but are planning to stay at CSR for our next visit. Good luck and have a great vacation wherever you stay!

CSR is my favorite moderate resort, and my husband's second favorite moderate (slightly prefers POR). For us, there is really no comparison between a value resort and a moderate when considering our vacation style and preferences. When we are DVC point poor, we usually pay cash for CSR, and we have never been disappointed.

We just stayed at CSR a few months ago for the first time and really enjoyed it. I was actually pleasantly surprised with it. The location was fantastic. Short bus rides to most parks. The bus service was about as good as we've ever experienced. I also liked that there didn't seem to be as many kids, since it is a convention resort. Don't get me wrong, there were still kids there, but it didn't seem to be as over-run with them. I also really enjoyed the restaurants there.

I would vote to move to CSR! :drive:

Have a great trip!

CSR has a great theme pool with food there too.

They have outdoor and inside bar areas. Lots of nice adult places to hang out.

It's my fav mod! Beautiful resort and I agree great quick buses.

I deaf think it's more adult vs value. However I had an aunt I took to pop a few years ago and we just spent mid day at nice places instead. For example we left MK and went to gf for a drink by the beach then boated to poly for another then went to CR for snacks. Then we bused to a park for evening, she loved it!

So you can make anything work with imagination.

Good luck deciding . You will enjoy CSR but 400 will buylots of food and drinks too.

Thank you so much for all your input! Still trying to make up my mind, but you've all been super helpful!

I'm excited either way!

Would folks recommend Port Orleans (either Riverside or French Quarter) over Coronado Springs?

I would. CSR is beautiful, but I didn't quite feel the Disney magic as much there. Port Orleans Riverside is so magical and beautiful. I love all the walkways and the beautiful buildings, and it's a short walk to POFQ. It's neat to be able to take the bus to Disney Springs, as well.

He's concerned about smoking areas. Does anyone have any experience with which resort is most "friendly" to smokers. AKA, which smoking areas are most convenient. Or is it about the same? I know Disney is discouraging smokers by lessening the number of DSAs.

hi there - just got back from a 5 night trip to Coronado - and I can tell you with all certainty.....IT'S FABULOUS. The grounds are gorgeous, although not as heavily themed as POR. We loved it - the Pepper Market is a great alternative to typical quick service. Maya Grille is onsite and delish. Pool is fabulous. Beds super comfy! I think if you want to impress the boyfriend - don't go to All Stars. Pick a moderate resort - any of the moderates I would recommend but I would but CBR at the end of the list.

IMO, no. I've stayed at POR and enjoyed it, but CSR is my favorite (even with the current construction). POR/FQ has the advantage of the DSp boat, but CSR has a better pool/slide/hot tub, a gym, a spa, more dining options and lounges, sliding doors between the beds and bath instead of a curtain, and a more central location which yields shorter bus rides. I find CSR so much more peaceful and seemingly less crowded than POR.

Also, CSR is priced less than POR/FQ, and FQ is usually excluded from discounts, so you might want to consider that budget-wise.

My suggestion is go with CSR. If BF is not 100% ready for the in your face Disney, CSR gives you a good way to ease in. You will get plenty of theming at the parks. CSR will give him a chance to get over the sensory overload that can happen on a first trip. We just brought DD's BF (he's 23) for his first Disney trip. We stayed at SSR. It worked great because he got a chance to be somewhere that wasn't all Disney, all the time. He was excited to be going to Disney but it isn't his first choice for a vacation. He ended up really enjoying himself and wants to go back. That was my goal-I didn't want him to hate it and then my DD wouldn't be able to get him back there. We haven't stayed at the other moderates but have visited them all and CSR is the only one we really want to go back to I know people complain about the convention feeling of CSR but we felt it was a good mix of Disney and a really beautiful resort.

This is exactly what my/his situation is. It's not his first choice for a vacation, but I'm hoping he'll enjoy it enough to want to go back (repeatedly, because I love everything at Disney).

You all are great! I felt conflicted after poking around a bit more, but I'm going to go with my initial gut thought and do CSR.

CSR is absolutely incredible. It's the one moderate with a gym and a legit bar. I personally want nothing to do with the values anymore (our last trip we finally tried AoA, and it is still nowhere near worth it). Definitely do the upgrade and enjoy it, you will be thrilled you did (especially if you plan on spending any significant time around the resort).

I personally love Riverside and French Quarter (though I think FQ has it beat out due to the size). People are right however, that discounts are can be rare. If money is a concern, book CSR. I haven't stayed there, but after reading the comment here, it may be on my list!
