opinions on coral reef for dinner

what do you think about coral reef, we were thinking about it for our CP dinner, is the food good, is it kid friendly, and do kids under 3 eat free and if so what do they get to eat

I'm not sure how much help I'll be since I don't have children, but at the very least this post will serve as a bump for you. I had lunch at the Coral Reef a few weeks ago. I really enjoyed the atmosphere. I did consider it to be kid friendly, most of the other diners there were families with young children. I did think the entrees were way over-priced, even at lunch. For that reason I only had a bowl of soup. It was delicious though. the service was also very good. Hope this helps a little!!!

My opinion is that the food is good, though not much better than you would find at any local seafood place (Red Lobster, etc). And, the prices are very high.

But, the atmosphere is fun - especially if you can get a table by the tank. The kids love eating while watching the fish swim by!

Personally, I would explore the Living Seas pavilion to see the fish, then eat someplace else where the food is a little better and lower priced.

We ate there last summer for lunch with 3 DDs:age 9,8 and 15 months. The atmosphere is awesome! They seated us next to the tank, so needless to say, baby was entertained for the entire meal. That is always a plus! The selections we chose were delicious. I especially enjoyed the Bisque and the dessert(chocolate wave). There is a fee for children though. Children under 3 eat free only at the buffets! If you haven't been to Coral Reef, I recommend it atleast once!

Coral Reef is our favorite place to eat in all the parks. As has been noted it is not cheap, but it is certainly inline with Fultons Crab House in Downtown Disney and the food quality is far superior to any Red Lobster or Landry's Seafood I have ever been in. For several years my wife and I celebrated our anniversary at Coral Reef because we like it so well. Kids of all ages are usually so fascinated by the fish swimming by the window they don't even notice their food.

I definitely think Coral Reef is a must do at least once!!! It is important to get a table close to the tank so kids have access to it. Each time we've gotten ressie for 4:45 and gotten right up by the tank.

The waitresses are always reminding the kids to look for the 2 sharks( which can keep them very busy!) and if they have trouble they will take them to find them in their hiding spots!!

The food is expensive but much higher quality than Red Lobster(which I worked at for 7 yrs in College and Grad school!)

They have kids menu--not cheap either--but my kids wusually have a shrimp cocktail and some bread and are happy!!
And don't forget the make your own sundae for dessert--my kids love it!!!

Hi,

We just had dinner at Coral Reef last week.

It is VERY kid friendly ~ they give the kids a colouring placemat with activities and crayons. There is a kids menu - my DD9 had spaghetti and loved it. She also had a "blue whale" which is a soda with a blue glowing ice cube.

the aquarium keeps the kids busy and there is a guide sheet to tick off all the fish you see.

There were scuba divers in the tank that swam by and waved at us... one did a sommersault and blew rings of bubbles.

My dinner was excellent I had salad and the grilled jumbo shrimp on pasta with olives and tomatoes.

For dessert we had the make it yourself sundae and peanut butter playdoh, which is like raw cookie dough

I hope you get a chance to try the Coral Reef.

It is pricey as already noted, but it is a beautiful restaurant. We actually prefer to sit in the booths so we get a better overall view of the water. We've been seated near the tank and have found those tables are uncomfortably close to each other. If you have a grouchy neighbor (we had one gentleman next to us who complained about the prices the whole time...all right, already!) it can be unpleasant.

Get a spot by the glass. If you're a wine drinker, this is your place. They have the best selection in WDW. The kids will love the marine life zooming by. Be seated firmly when the bill comes however. The prices are really steep! The adult meals are limited in selection and portion as well. Fun to do once I suppose. My 9 y.o. loved it.

We ate at the Coral Reef in June 2003. It was our anniversary trip. We were without kids, of course, but we have two girls ages 5 and 9. We had a great time and a great meal. My wife had Mahi and I had the Tuna with a Wasabbi sauce. The food was excellent and far superior to what you would find at a Red Lobster. I did not notice the price of this place being any worse than any other restaurant of it's kind in WDW. Lets face it a sit down meal here is expensive and the Coral Reef is on the upper end of the restaurants. Our food was at least as good and cheaper than the night we ate at Narcoosees. The atmosphere is great. We sat right near the tank. We decided immediately that we would have to bring our kids here when we return in August 2004. We know they will enjoy the scenery. There is a good kids menu. The tank entertains the kids prior to the meal arrival. Do not go into the Living Seas before you eat with kids present. They will be much more entertained at meal time if you save the exhibit for after the meal.

The CP package pricings give a price of $10.99 plus tax for children 3-11. If your child is under 3, you will not be charged this fee. But that doesn't guarantee free food; presumably children under 3 will be treated at usual at each particular restaurant.
