sorry if this has been asked a million times already. for those of you who have flown airtran, is it a pretty dependable airline.
I found some great fares for our August trip (less than 160 rt each from Philly). and was going to book.

Do they change flight times often? I would hate to book a 6:00 am flight and then have it pushed back to noon?

Don't be sorry for asking. Airtran seems to get favorable ratings from many posters here for flights from Philadelphia. They do change flight times, but are very good about informing their customers of changes.

Less than $160 pp round trip in August is probably the best you are going to do.

I personally like Airtran and fly them often, many times to Orlando. Love the XM Satellite Radio onboard. I think of them as a step up from Southwest, although they will be come Southwest eventually. :sad2: I like the fact that I can purchase my seat ahead of time if I choose to do so. It's only $6 to choose a seat ahead of time unless it's a choice seat which is about $15.

I haven't experienced too many flight time changes with them but if you do have them they notify you right away. When my flight time has changed it's only been by a few minutes, nothing major. I did have a flight to Orlando once that was a non-stop from BWI. They changed the flight and i would've had to connect in ATL. I was able to change to another non-stop flight that day without incurring a fee.

We've flown them out of PHL 3 times, in 3 weeks it'll be ABE. They never changed our early flights to MCO but they did on the flip once, and when I called to tell them we needed to get back to PHL earlier than the connecting flight they switched us to, they put us on a direct that I would have booked in the first place but was too expensive when we booked, no extra charge. Often you can actually benefit from their swaps.

I love Airtran and fly them as my first choice above all other airlines. The prices are usually the best and I can upgrade to business class for a reasonable fee. I HAVE had schedule changes in the past but I can usually use them in my favor if I want to switch to another flight.

We are flying on Airtran nonstop from PHL in April and our flights changed slightly - less than an hour. I did see a prior thread that they are very good about working with you if a change is not going to work for you....

We've also flown to Seattle several times on Airtran from PHL or BWI and I cannot remember any serious time changes. I keep hoping it won't happen, but I do think that there will be less bargains out of PHL and BWI with the merge with SW.

I'd buy, airfares just seem to be high this year...

I LOVE Air Tran!!!! We fly with them several times per year out of WV. Sometimes they change flight times but never more than 30 min. This winter our flight was routed to PA instead of WV due to weather. They could not have been more accomodating and even provided everyone with a free flight. I had a flight delayed for 2 days with Delta and never even got a "sorry" I will use Air Tran as long as they are flying.
