bluecomic sans Hi to anyone/everyone who has recently stayed at the Doubletree Hotels Club Orlando (which is the one on Apopka Vineland Road, Lake Buena Vista)! Could you share your opinion of this property? Please give recommendations for floor, or any other tips, etc. Thank you! Thank you! :bounce:

I stayed there this past October. The rooms were decent, the pool wasn't anything special. The staff were friendly...got cookies at check in (they were good too). Only really down fall for this place is the access to its driveway. It is a major down fall too!!! It is very hard to get in and out of the driveway there. I found it was easier to go to the light & go in thru the gas station to enter & when leaving (unless I was heading to the right from the driveway) exit thru the gas station as well. Traffic there is always terrible.... other than that... place is ok. I got it thru SkyAuction so I was ok with it. I would never pay full price for that place...because of the traffic situation. hope this helps.

Thanks, Sharon. I appreciate the tip about the driveway. We will be staying there in Aug. and I also got the room at a good rate through Hotwire. Do you like SkyAuction the best over the others? This was the first time I ever used anything like Hotwire and wasn't sure what to expect. Kind of scary the first time.

I have used Priceline & SkyAuction but never Hotwire. I do like SkyAuction, I usually use it for 7 day timeshare stays. The only time I used it for a hotel was back in October. I know how you feel about leary on the first time. That was how I was. Now, I think nothing of using them. Back to your original post, I really can't tell you what floor to request since I was only there the once. I can tell you at night the parking lot gets pretty full. I don't mind noise, so I usually ask for a room close to the elevator ...have fun!!! Oh, the back parking lot is how you get to the alley that takes you to the gas station..... look for it... ;)

We stayed there in January. They have made a median on the street (Apopka Vineland) dividing it at the entrance to the Doubletree Club so that it's necessary to go down to the light and make a "U" turn (which is legal in Florida) rather than turning left into the hotel's drive.

If you're not a member of Hilton Honors, sign up for it and request the Hilton Honors floor (7th floor). It's nicer than the other floors, I believe. We got our room off Hotwire, too, and got a good price. It was worth it. The staff is really nice and accommodating. Their cookies are delicious! Also, they put a bottle of water in the room for you and that's a nice touch.

Hello!

I just returned from a week at the Doubletree Club. I thought it was a great place for the price! I personally didn't find the location troublesome as I depended on the hotel shuttle. The staff was very friendly and nice. Our room was nice and clean and the bed was very comfy. The pool is a decent size and there was hardly ever anyone there.

If you enjoy the occasional drink, make sure you visit Lucy at the bar. She is hilarious and makes a wicked drink!

I certainly would sign up for the Hilton Honours card.

If you have any specific questions please ask away.

Hello DJT and RC Fan! If I already have made the reservation through Hotwire, can I call the hotel and request the seventh floor location now or did that have to be done when I made the reservation? I signed up for Hilton Honors Card so I have a number and am on file now with them. Thank you for the great tip regarding the card/floor preference, etc.

Mavanilly,

You can call the hotel directly, tell them you are a Hilton Honors member and request the 7th floor. You can give them your HH number.

The beds are very comfortable, and after a long day, that's so important in my opinion. I have difficulty getting to sleep and staying asleep but went right to sleep in their comfy bed and slept all night long.

Hello!

I think I e-mailed them, asked for the seventh floor and gave them my Honors card number, so by all means give them a call. They will have your reservation on file very shortly after you have made your Hotwire transaction..

I hope you have a great stay!

Hi Donna and RC Fan, I called the hotel yesterday to request the seventh floor lodging. The reservations operator asked who I booked the room through and I replied Hotwire. She said because I went through a third party they couldn't honor the request even though I had the Hilton Honors card membership. She said she would put it in their computer as a request but that they couldn't guarantee it. Did they say that to you too or did I just get an uncooperative operator?

Mavanilly,

The last time I stayed there, I made my reservations through Hotelmartusa.com. I later called Doubletree Club, gave them my HH number and requested the HH floor. They didn't tell me that since I reserved through a third party, they couldn't guarantee it. I never heard of that before. When we arrived, we went to the hotel around 1:00 or 1:30 to see if they would let us go ahead and check in early and they happily did and we got the 7th (HH) floor. The whole staff was very accommodating throughout our stay. I don't think you'll be disappointed even if you don't get the 7th floor, especially for the Hotwire rate, but it would be nice to have that floor. Even if you don't get that floor, you'll still get the yummy warm chocolate chip cookie at check in and the bottled water in your room. Maybe you could make another call to them at a different time of day before you go and see what they tell you.

Donna

I e-mailed my floor request. I included my confirmation number and my Honors card #. The only time they asked about Hotwire was when I checked in. As DJT suggested, I would try calling back and see if you get someone more helpful.
