I already made a ressie for Avalon Cove at DCA on Saturday. Since then, I've read quite a few negative reviews of the place. Many say that the restaurant itself is beautiful, but the food is lackluster. Any comments/opinions on whether we should stick to our ressie or perhaps go to DTD to Rainforest or another eatery?

Thanks for your replies!

I have eaten there three times and really liked the food. I am not a picky eater nor into much neuveau or eclectic foods (though I am learning). I had the meatloaf twice and the fish and chips once. The salads have been good and the chicken soup was good too. I have heard poeple complain alot about the pot pie. Be aware that I hardly ever complain about the food at restaurants. :)

Personally, I really enjoyed Avalon Cove. The atmosphere is great, and it's a character dining restaurant. The food there was much better than the food at Blue Bayou, in case you were thinking of going there. So, I would check it out. It's pretty good food for a theme park. Also check out the Rainforest Cafe. It's awesome!

I was there this summer and give the food a big thumbs down. I had the fish and chips. The fish was VERY greasy and the chips were soggy. DH had a burger which was nothing special. It's a fixed price menu (soup or salad and entree), so for the money ($12?) I expected more. Drinks cost extra.

Having said that, the restaurant is beautiful and the character interaction was awesome.... mainly because the restaurant was empty and the characters had nothing better to do than to keep visiting with us. I have been to most of the character breakfasts at DLR and WDW and this one had the longest/best quality interaction. I believe the characters were Ariel, Donald, Chip, and Pluto.

If you want good food, don't have kids or don't like character interaction, the Rain Forest Cafe is a much better choice. Increadible scenery and great tasting food.

I ate there in January and really enjoyed it. I had the Lobster Cobster salada and thought it was very good. When I went the price was around $20 for starter, entree and dessert. I thought it was a very good deal as it was a lot of food and a good character meal. Be warned, if you really want to see Ariel, she isn't always there. We ate around 5:30 pm and she was gone for the day. You might want to call and see if she has set hours. We saw Minnie, Chip and Dale, Pluto and Goofy.

I've dined at Avalon Cove 2x - once when it was still run by Wolfgang Puck, and once after.

IMHO the food quality wasn't the same after the change in management. The seafood cobb salad I had the first time we ate there, while it was a Puck restaurant, was the best salad I'd ever had. The second time around I had the meatloaf and it wasn't any better that the employee cafateria at my work. Also, I expected more characters than just Chip, Dale, Minnie & Goofy. Ariel was there for the first 5 minutes and then her shift was over; she sits on a cart & they wheel her away when she's done for the night.

Thankfully they left the interior alone; the glass jellyfish and glass seaweed and bubble light fixtures have to be seen to be believed!

If I wanted to see more characters I'd go to Goofy's Kitchen at the DLH - for breakfast, a better value IMHO. Hope this helps!
