Opinions needed on bus vs car

We'll be making the trip to the World in October. DH, DD4 and I are coming down from PA; FIL will be coming in from TX. FIL, in his words is "having trouble getting around" - moves slowly and tires easily. So we'll be renting a scooter for him (his idea, which is a massive surprise). We're staying at the Fort Wilderness Cabins, so we have the internal buses AND the regular buses to negotiate.

I was looking at one of the scooter rental sites (Apple) and saw that they have "easily disassembled" scooters that (they say) fit into a car trunk. And I started to think that maybe that was a better route - rent a car and use THAT to get to & from the parks (except MK, which is just a boat ride). But of course that's more money. And the hassle of bringing or renting a car seat for DD.

I don't know if FIL has used a scooter before (but I'll take the suggestion on another thread that he try one out in a Target or something) and I haven't been down to WDW in more than 10 years so the bus thing is a foggy memory.

So who has an opinion? Get the car and the take-apart scooter? Or stick with the buses? If anyone has any Fort Wilderness-specific experiences, that would be great.

Thanks in advance!

Apple is one of the companies that use the GoGo. It easily comes apart into 4 sections and isn't very heavy. It also rents the Victory (which is larger.) It comes apart, too. The Victory is a little heavier and not quite as easy to disassemble.

My mother who has an ECV will be traveling along with us this Sept. We will have our own car. Just seems easier than having to get on the bus with it. I'm not a fan of using the Disney buses as it is, even without an ecv. She has the Go Go elite traveler and it comes apart easily.

While we do not use an ECV, we do use a special needs stroller. Our past 3 trips we flew in, used ME and then used the buses to get around. NEVER AGAIN. All the people and the waiting is just not for us anymore. Some people really love the buses, but we will be renting a car for our next trip. The way I figure it is that I have already spent a small fortune on our trip so it is worth the extra cost of a car to make it more enjoyable. Are you a member of AAA or some other group that will help with a discount for the rental? If not sometimes you can find promo codes online for good rates.

May I suggest becoming a member of Alamo insider because they give good deals and always 10 percent off if no deals. I always use them and they give good deal and very easy to use. Plus do you have Amex and if so call and ask about prime rental car insurance because every time you rent a car they charge you 24 for 45 days. Then you don't have to get far insurance with the rental which will save you alot because the cheapest for Alamo is 12 a day i think 24 for 45 and get better coverage is a better deal. Once you enrol you don't have to do anything it charge it automatic and if you rent another car with in the 45 your still be covered as long as you use the same card.

You can do I I'd you have jet blue Amex blue cash and sure if you have the Costco but not sure.

I second Alamo we just booked a full size car (Impala ) for 8 days for $199 total for our trip next May. My daughter checks every day for deals 10 minutes after we booked the deal was gone

That hat I like about Alamo once got a 430 full size and checked the week before and was able to get a missile suv for 120. Plus another great thing about Alamo is they have self service kiosk so you don't have to deal will their trying to press you into insurance and paying extra for gas. When it cheaper to just fill it up the night before at Hess.
