opinions needed about gifts split between adult daughters

Have you expressed your feelings to your parents? Is there some heirloom that you specifically would really like? Why not ask your parents? Explain that If they are dividing things up anyway, you wouldn't mind having somthing yourself. Let them know how you feel.

That stinks. I think your parents are wrong in not letting you have family heirlooms, and in not giving you a housewarming gift, when they have done so for your sister.

I think that Christmas and birthday gifts, and paying for weddings are completely different issues, though.

Well that is just sad. I am sorry that you are dealing with this.
On a side note, I wish I had an Aunt like you, that would take my family to Disney World! If you are interested in adopting "another" Sister and family, pm me. (I only have 2 kids)

This thread caught my attention, and I have read the whole thing. I really understand how you feel. I am sorry for the situation you are in.
My grandmother SO obviously favours my sister. One year My sister Recieved a CAR FULL OF PRESENTS.... FULL!!! And my Brother got a gift.... And me.... NOTHING..... NADA... ZILCH.... The difference In my situation was that my sister who is my absolute best friend, was horrified... emberrassed, she felt terrible. And it didn't bother me that she recieved soooo many things... It is a HUGE family joke, that My sister is my grandmothers favorite, My brother is ok. ( he will carry on the family name) and me.... who.? what? there was another child?..... If my grandmother thinks my sister is upset at her for some reason, when we go over to her house, she will have TONS of pictures up of my sister. tons! some blown up, and hung on the walls. lol, it is acctually very funny.
Our family has a Great sence of humor. And that is what helps us get through. But I must say my sisters attitude is amazing. She would give the shirt off her back to someone if they needed it, and she would go with out. And maybe that is why she is such a favorite of everyone.
This favoritsm has also hurt my parents, who have alway been VERY fair with us. We always got the same gift, if it was an object, mine would be pink, my sisters would be purple. our whole lives we were treated fairly. My brother too. he would also recieve somthing. I think they were constantly trying to make up for my grandmothers hurtfull actions.
Keep your chin up, and hopefully your therapist will be able to help you sort through this mess. Sending hugs your way! from one bottom of the totom pole to another.
