We are thinking of going to WDW at Christmas....week before Christmas. Do you think the price difference between a 1BR versus a studio is worth the extra money? Really can't decide what to do!! :confused3

Absolutely! We HATE staying in studios. It's too much like a regular hotel room. We LOVE the full kitchen and full living room not to mention the in room Jacuzzi and laundry. Which resort are you thinking of?

We stayed in a one bedroom at Saratoga Springs in March......WONDERFUL! We have always stayed in studios which are nice, but is a hotel feel. Of course staying in studios stretch our points but we had a few extra banked and decided on the one bedroom. The only negative thing about staying in the one bedroom is that you will NEVER want to go back to the studio. We were spoiled by the space and privacy from the kids. When it's just my wife and I, a studio will be fine, until then we are hooked on the one bedroom!!!!

Yes, Yes, Yes, YES!!!!

If you are thinking about going this year, it may not be your choice as to which type of unit to get. It may depend upon which is still available.

I agree. I think the studios go first.

Although the 1 bedroom is our choice when we go.

This depends 100% on you and your vacationing habits.

Do you want an accommodation that's mostly a place to change, shower and sleep? Do you anticipate spending very little time in the room? Do you only have a couple of people going on the trip? If the answer to all this is yes, then a studio might be best.

Do you want to hang out at your villa more, maybe resting, napping or lounging around? Do you have a 3rd and/or 4th guest that you'd prefer to sleep in another room? Do you see a lot of value in having a full kitchen and washer/dryer in your room? Then a 1BR might be best.

It really comes down to which you put a higher priority on.....staying more nights at WDW or upgrading the accommodations you will be staying in. Nobody here can tell you if it's worth it to anyone but themselves.

FWIW, yes it's worth it to us. In fact, we book a 2BR for the four of us which provides a great vacation home base for us! :)

I second Mary Ellen. But if you have a choice and can afford the difference, the one bedroom is a great luxury. We only stay in one bedrooms unless we take guests with us. Then we get a two bedroom.

You'll need to find a BWV owner and get that reservation locked in before May 16 if you are going the week before Christmas.

I agree you will definitely want to move on this BEFORE the 7 month booking window. If you are thinking OKW or SSR, you will probably have more time, but even then the studio will be hardest to get. I still think the 1 bedroom is a must though. We rarely stay in a studio for more than a night or two on either end of our trips.

We do both and while there is no question that the one bedroom is more spacious, more comfortable, and offers more of the amenities of home there are instances when we find the studio to be just fine.

As others have said, if you are planning on spending a lot of time out of the room (such as visiting the other resorts like the Grand Floridian or Wilderness Lodge because their decorations are so great and are a must see) and/or you want to save a few points then a studio is a good choice.

One thing we really appreciate about DVC is the flexibility it affords us.

Yes, it is absolutely worth the point difference.

Don't get me wrong...a studio is nice, and the kitchenette gives it a bit more "zip".

But a 1BR...it's a condo, with a separate bedroom, a jacuzzi tub, a laundry room. There's no comparison.

We joined DVC for the wonderful accomadations & we will always stay in a 1 BR....We've stayed in studios & there is just no comparison!

At the BWV, many of the 1 BR's have an extra balcony & the jacuzzi tubs at all of the DVC resorts are so nice to have.....(the washer & dryer come in so handy too!)

As noted above, a studio is a larger hotel room with a kitchenette, and it's nicer than a mod hotel room. A one-bedroom is a luxury condo, as you will clearly see in pictures of the units.

You may want to take a look at this link and see the difference yourself: http://www.allearsnet.com/acc/dvc.htm

Scroll down the left side of the page and find the resort you are interested in, then click on Photos - text links. That way you can select which pictures you look at, rather than having to sift through all of them.

Our first trip as members was in a studio at VWL. DW, DNiece and I. Since DN was 4yo at the time, this worked out great. She liked the sofa bed. We would fold it up every morning, giving all of us a little more room to get around.
Our second trip was in a 1BD at SSR. DW, DD and I. DD is 24yo and slept on the sofa bed. She said it was fine. I agree that the extra room and amenities in the 1BD are addicting. The relaxation in the Jacuzzi was priceless.
I would recommend staying in a studio your first trip, so you can decide for yourself. On my second trip, I found the 1BD to be my vindication for buying into DVC.

Once you stay in a one bedroom or large, you'll never go back to a studio if you can help it. Let's put it this way, i stay in a one bedroom even if I'm alone.

After staying in a 2 BR it was real hard staying in a standard room. It is so nice to have a living room, kitchen, even if you don't plan on cooking. You have washer and dryer, and space!!!
