I've never posted in this section of the boards before so hello! :flower3:

I'm an elementary education major and am on track to graduate in the spring of 2013. My plan had always been to make it so that I would have had an open semester in the spring of fall of 2012 to do the Disney CP. A family emergency that required much of my time for the last year made it impossible for me to take the last 3 classes required before my first practicum, so now I am not ahead like I wanted to be. Does that make sense? I'm taking those 3 classes and an extra class now. I then have practicum 1, practicum 2, and student teaching. I can't take anything outside of those 3 blocks, I can only take them in the fall and the spring, because each one requires me to be in an elementary school. My question basically is... I've always wanted to do the Disney College Program, but now that I am not ahead in my studies I'm not sure what to do. If I went ahead and did the college program I would be graduating in the fall instead of the spring which is not the best time to be hired as a new teacher. My parents are worried if I went ahead and do the college program I won't be able to be hired right away. I'm unsure of what to do. I want to apply for next fall, because I've been taught how short life can be and that every opportunity should be seized, but at the same time it is definitely scary to know I could be risking not being able to get a job for several months. Any thoughts?

Hello! You could always do the cp the semester after you graduate. Just apply during your last semester and then go there the fall after graduation. How about taking a whole year off before teaching? You could always try to extend your cp to stay there longer than January, possibly even until August. This brings you back to the new school year and new teaching jobs!

I'm a special education major who found myself in a very similar position as you. I planned out all of my schooling ahead of time to make sure I'd have an open semester for the CP. However, I ended up transferring to school in Orlando after my CP ended, and I am now set back a semester anyway for graduation, and will be graduating in the fall. I have heard that teaching jobs MAY be available in the spring, since teachers go on maternity leave and things happen. I applied for some Professional Internships, but if I do not get one and don't find a teaching job, I will probably try subbing in schools in the spring or taking off teaching for the spring completely. If the CP is something you really want to do, I say that you go for it. Jobs will come and go, but you can only apply for the CP during/right after college. It will all work itself out in the end :)
