I need to buy 2 new toilets..
Plumber is recommending Toto, which I heard good things about..

He is recommending the higher 16" vs. standard 14.5, eloganted seat and say they are more comfortable. We currently have the standard 14.5 with round seat.

I'm not redoing the whole bathroom, just new toilets. If I were redoing the whole bathroom, i will definitely consider the higher seat with a higher sink and all. But since I'm not, I'm afraid the higher toilet will really stand out.

We live in an apt, so your standard tub size bathroom, nothing to get fancy with.

Do you have the higher or elogated toilet seat? do you like it? Plumber claims it's more comfortable..

FWIW...i'm only 5'2, DH 5'10, DD 5'7" and DS12 is 5'6" and probably will grow a bit more.

Thanks for any advice..

I am 5'6" with bad knees that are getting worse the older I get. We will be replacing our toilets in the next year and I have already told DH we are getting a one taller for our master bath. The hall bath, I don't really care, but the bathroom I use all the time....oh, ya it's gonna be just that much taller to help my knees.

I'm your height & the taller ones are much more comfortable. We've replaced all of the toilets in our home w/ the taller ones & their height doesn't make them stand out in the bathrooms.

We have the higher toilet in one of our bathrooms, and my mom has them in both of her bathrooms, and they don't look wierd or out of place. Unless you have little kids, I think they are a great idea!

As my brother put it... go to your local home improvement store and take the display toilets for a test drive.

Best way to find what'll fit your seat is to take one on a sample.

We got a higher one when we re-did our powder room a couple of years ago. We've actually had people ask about it because they liked it so much! We are current re-doing 2 bathrooms and even though we were going to keep the toilets, we decided to get 2 new higher ones. They really are more comfortable, although a little weird the first time you sit on one.

Our sinks are standard height. It doesn't look strange at all.

eta: the first one we got was rounded (small powder room) but the other two are elongated. I don't notice a difference with those.

We have an elongated comfort height toilet and I love it! It's in our upstairs bathroom, and it's not only more comfortable, but it's easier to negotiate when I have to get up in the middle of the night. :thumbsup2

ETA: Ours is a Kohler. And I agree that it won't look out of place with the rest of your bathroom. The difference really isn't all that noticeable by looking at it. It's when you sit on it that you notice the difference!

We had elongated toilets in our old house and don't have them here, I notice a difference, especially with the boys and dribbles down the front of the toilet:rolleyes1

I have heard good things about Toto, but do not personally have that brand. I have a co-worker who has one though and she likes it. A few years ago we did a bathroom reno and purchased a Kohler comfort height elongated toilet and I have to say that I love it. I am fairly short (5'4") and my feet aren't left dangling or anything even though the height is taller than a regular toilet. My 6'4" DS and 5'11" DH much prefer a comfort height toilet to a regular one. Honestly, I find it easier to sit down and get up from too. We will be renovating our 2nd bathroom next month and will be purchasing another comfort height, elongated toilet from Kohler.

Thank you all...Two comfort height elongated ordered. Thank you for sharing your experiences.

:)
